I wonder the same thing, b/c I'm in the 15s. Maybe its a regional fuel/octane thing? I have people go around me coming from a stop b/c I'm accelerating slowly. I'm also doing 85% city.

Speed makes a big difference in MPG. How much do you think your higher-than-average results are because of the lower Hawaii speed limit? If I remember correctly, the highest speed limit in the state is 60mph with most city freeways limited to 45mph.

In contrast, most states are 65 in the city and 70 rural. Some states like Utah have speed limits as high as 80. When I drive slightly over 60, I can get 18 or better.

I constantly watch my fuel use and the gauge readings... The only change recently was when I went to a 1" taller tire, and my mileage dropped (because the speedometer slowed)... However, the last two tanks it returned to typical... ??

Anyway, Normal for me is 16-17 mpg (town and highway combined). If in town only, 15-16... If on the highway only 17-19... Driving 65-75 on the highway.

I am tempted to cruise control it at 60 mph on the highway to see if I can actually exceed my record of 19.2 mpg... But, I don't think I want to waste that much time getting somewhere in my senior years!!! LOL

Anyway, when I see V-6 4WD AUTO. DC Tacomas that are also posting around 16 mpg, I know they are being honest!

Do the Fuelly.com thing and let us all see your truck's average MPG everytime you post.

My current project is noting the gauge needle location as the gallons are consumed.I will make an illustration when I am satisfied with my research observations!

I think he means the odometer is not tracking to the 17" wheels since he says he changed from the stock 16". He could use a GPS to verify that it is different.

I have 2.3k miles on my DCSB and averaging 18.9 MPG using 87 octane on my last tank and no need to lie about that. I was expecting more MPG and hoping my change to M1 EP synthetic at 3k miles will help it get to ~20 MPG.

I have a 2.7L 4x4 and have never gotten better than 20.9 mpg on a tank, so forgive me if I am a little skeptical of V6s getting low- to mid-20 mpgs.

Coming from an FJ driver on 3" lift and 33's. Stay below 70. My mileage is amazingly better if I stick between 60 and 65. Above that, I feel like I can watch my gas gauge go from right to left.

Never reach over 2500rpm accelerating from a stop, and never drive over 60mph. Speed has an enormous influence on your gas mileage in these trucks, as with most all vehicles. The rest has to do with weather, elevation, etc. Trying to get gas mileage I can easily do around 18 city and 21 highway. Best I've done is 23.5mpg going to the beach. Didn't get over 55mph the whole time. Driving regularly, or spirited, I get around 16-17mpg. Pulling my Wakesetter I get around 14mpg.

Only getting about 15-17mpg. Ugh. This is with driving like a grandpa and 60-65mph on the highway. Only mods are rear canopy and 265/75/16 AT's.

this might not sound believable but i recently took a 200 mile roundtrip and got an average of 22.5 mpg. but cruise control has a lot of influence on gas mileage because it keeps it a steady speed, and manual driving, people rev the engine even though they dont notice it.

No bikes for me. Used to ride a YFZ 450 but I traded it for my 4Runner project. No one to ride with at the dunes = waste of money

EDIT: Saw you catch yourself. Haha. Yeah, no YZF for me.

Yeah. Motorcycles are a lot easier to have fun with even when you're solo. Quads, you'll end up stuck in a tree hole somewhere and never be found. :ohsnap:
