How are you guys strapping down or carrying gas cans in the bed?

Wavian (and I'm assuming all metal jerry cans) fit under a diamondback cover with like 0.25" spare. So I just lined up 4 of them and they couldn't move with a full bed. Long term plan is to get a high clearance rear bumper with a swing out to hold 2 jerry cans and spare tire.

Based on the previous comments, it doesn't sound like this info is useful for the OP but maybe someone else down the road will read this and find it helpful.

Weird, my Wavian is too tall to fit under my BakFlip. I have to lay on it's side for it to fit under the cover.

Diamondback covers sit on top of the bed sides and also have a bit of height gained from the seals. It's a really tight fit but they do fit vertically!

I was going to ask if you didn’t have a bed mat, but I see your later reply. My Wavian were too tall to fit under my Diamondback, but I had them at the front of the (short) bed. They fit under the cover, but the locking bar would hit them. To fit standing up, I would have had to scoot them back towards the center of the Diamondback. Did you have yours further back, or maybe my lock lever could be adjusted to clear them?

Are your locking arms in the direction as mine? So the bent end allows the long part to be closer to the cover? I had my Wavian cans right up against the cab wall of the bed under the locking arms.

I have two milk crates strapped up against the cab. 5 gal gas cans as well as 20# propane tanks fit in nicely. If you do this, make sure to get real milk crates and not the cheap dorm room 'crates' you get at Wally World.

I use the cheap walmart crates for fishing... the sides of them bend from the weight of my fishing poles. But every pound matters in a kayak, so the cheap thin walmart ones do the trick.

There's also a certain spot a wavian can will fit under an OEM tonneau cover with a bed mat. I found that spot last summer and the forgot where it was. I may have to mark it next time I find it.

I put my plastic racing can next to the fuel tank cap but inside the bed, duh. Easy to fill and held in place with a bungie.

    A bed divider works good.

I’ll have to take a look when I get back in town! I’m guessing they must be “twisted” a bit, so they're not tucked up as far as they should be. Glad I asked!

I have a bed extender on my Tacoma. With it folded in it works great to keep gas cans, gas grill bottles, or most anything corralled. I find it very useful with that short bed for hauling anything over 5 feet too.

Scepter cans are fabulous. I was lucky and ordered a couple of 20L in 2008 (yes, you saw that right). Shortly after that the US made it extremely difficult to import Scepter cans into the US. Not sure what anyone’s recent experience has been trying to get these cans into the US...any success stories out there?

I guess you’ve never hauled brush, lumber, chopped wood, or anything else you want to easily slide out of your truck bed.
