Getting ready for my annual Kayak in camping trip this week so I went out and purchased a harbor freight bed extender to carry my kayak. I would have put on top of my Prinsu but I am going to put my buddies canoe on top of that. Should be an interesting setup and hopefully a great trip as well. Finally got to use every part of my truck that it was meant for. I went on my annual kayak in camping trip and put my buddies canoe up on top of the Prinsu. The funny thing is I heard less wind noise from the rack with the Canoe on top with the Aerodynamics. I love my truck even more and can't wait for the new suspension and wheels coming soon.

I know this is a year old, but if your still around, how are you still liking this setup?
I have kb voodoo bed bars and was looking at the same setup. My major concern is in a rear end accident i am pretty much toast.

It’s works 100% fine but yes In an accident (front or rear) it’s not gonna be good. It worked great for me but I’ve since moved on from that setup. If i did it all over again I’d just tow a trailer.

Thanks. Makes me a little too nervous. Ive already had someone tap my kayak in the bed of my truck.

I have a pair of malone versa rails, so in the event i need the bed, ill just put the kayak on the roof with those rails.

I also have a trailer, but prefer not to use it for long trips when i only got to bring 1 kayam.

Sometimes I use a bed extender with marker lights that I put together to be legal at night or in low visibility conditions. Most of the time I use a Malone trailer, it’s handy for shuttling 2-3 kayaks on one-way paddles. The tongue retracts so I can store it standing upright in the garage.

I normally use thule saddles mounted on my cap or put them side by side in the bed with a box extender but recently got a utility trailer with removable ramp, truck has a swingarm on it now so I plan to use the trailer when launching from an area with a ramp. I could probably get away with a second set of saddles on the rack if I removed the other stuff up there but my boats are heavy (80-100 lbs each) so I havent tried it yet.

It would be tough to find mounts large enough for factory bars, they're what, 3" wide? I could try my Thule saddles on my factory rack to see if they fit

You will need some cross bars. For my wife's explorer, I bought the thule aeroblade crossbars, which are about 3" or so wide.

Hitch extender off Amazon for short trips, way easier to load in the bed than lifting on the roof by myself. I just got a shell, and am debating some cross bars on top of the shell for longer trips where I'd also want gear in my bed.

Is that thing pretty light? Looks like a pain in the ass to load unless you can lift it entirely over your head

44lbs. Super easy to lift up there (for me anyway).
