Sorry, I've just been listening to radio for years, but now live in an area that has no decent radio stations. XM free trial is OK, but not sure I'm going to subscribe after the trial ends.

Thinking of starting an MP3 collection. Do have the files on your phone or USB? Or do you stream them from cloud storage through your phone?

    Thanks!

That's not all the computers fault. Those huge memory sticks have the slowest flash memory possible.

I have my MP3 music on a 16GB USB stick and it works well but have been listening mostly to XM. Definitely won't renew XM at their standard subscription rates but will consider signing up if they come back with a decent discount offer.

To me, XM is like Directv, hundreds of channels but only a couple that are worth a shit. Then most of the time they play crap I don't like anyway.

I'm a bit surprised there's no SD memory card option for playing MP3's. That's standard on a lot of vehicles now.

Yeah, I don't like the location of the USB port. Right in front of the cup holders....

I'm going to look for a really low profile USB flash drive and hope it doesn't interfere with the cup holder.

I listen to my music almost exclusively in MP3 format and have been using an SD card since 2013 when I bought my current vehicle.

They usually do once you tell them no you don't want to renew. They basically offer you the same service for less than half the original price. Been through the same song and dance with them for years.

Where is a good place to purchase MP3 music? I just bought a few from Amazon for $1.29 each just to try out USB vs phone/Bluetooth. Think I would go the USB route.

Bluetooth from my phone. USB is good but they can be slow. I'm surprised more manufacturers don't put SD drives in vehicles for music storage.

The 2Gen doesn't have an SD card drive in it? Are you simply plugging your SD card into a USB cable setup?

Showin' my age here, but I only like the 60's, 70's and 80's stations on XM and most of what they play, I already have on my iPod. My vote is for iPod / USB because you are in complete control of what is played!

I'm no audiophile by any means but music on XM sounds genuinely terrible. For those who grew up listening to music on AM, it's probably no big deal. I just can't do it.

I use iTunes as my music platform. It has a lot of haters but I'm fairly low maintenance. It stores my music and I can then play it. I'm not sure what else is really needed from a digital music platform. I have over 16,000 songs in my library and have no issues whatsoever. I also extensively use playlist.

I also stream through Pandora in the car a lot. I have unlimited data on a work iPhone so streaming isn't an issue.

For free options burn from your CD's, also check your local library. Many libraries offer access to Freegal online music. You are limited to how many songs you can download (usually 5/week) but it's free.

Same here 938 of 70's songs on a single playlist. Also some modern music and classic Rock. I have XM in the MX 5 but don't want it in the truck.

I should have been more specific. My current vehicle is a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it has an SD card reader for MP3's. Looks like my Taco will be in Austin tomorrow so should be trading in the Jeep soon. :)

I enjoy the trial subscription while it lasts, but I'm not willing to pay a subscription fee for music.
