So was driving down the road about 30 mph and noticed my rpms were like 2300 so i was confused, then i noticed i had put it in second (on automatic trans). So really quickly i threw it forward and it made it all the way to park. Horrific screeching sounds followed by me throwing it back into D about a second later....So I really dont think anything is bad, but im just making sure....

I didn't think the computer would let you shift into park at speed. the screech is concerning though. Any weird noises now?

Park your truck on the hill, put in the P and see if it rolls down or stays in place. P has lock for tranny if you shift into P while driving it may have broken off.

Your truck is now worthless. It's going to explode leaving nothing but metal dust in a puddle of transmission fluid. I'll save you the disposal fee by giving you $100 for it...

But seriously, I did almost that exact same thing back when I was in high school. Nothing ever came of it. Make sure you didn't sheer off the park pawl by parking on a slightly sloped driveway and putting it in park without the emergency brake set. As long as it holds against the slope (and maybe you pushing it downhill) you're fine.

I wouldn't make a habit of doing that, tho.

I have to agree. I used to have an old K5 Blazer with the shifter on the tree. I was rolling at ~10mph and tried to go from drive to neutral and ended up going all the way to park. Had some horrible popping and grinding noises for about 2 seconds until the truck stopped.

I wasnt in a good mood at the time, so I said fuck it, put it back in drive and it drove fine for awhile. About 1000 miles later it would not shift past 2nd gear and I had to have it rebuilt.

Take the truck to AAMCO or your favorite shop and have them check the tranny out. If you did damage it, maybe you can get it fixed before it requires a full rebuild.

You probably got a little bit of metal shaving in your transmission oil pan now, but should be alright. Don't do it again.

I did something similar to my Cherokee once - reverse at 70 mph. Quite the oops, I know. It was fine. Never experienced any problems for the remaining couple of years that I owned it.
