How big a deal to "unlift"?

Looking at buying a 2006 4x4. Everything is right about it, price, condition, options -but it has a ridiculous lift. I don't care for the look of anything more than about 2", and really prefer stock. This is the actual truck - this is what, like 9"? So my question is, I know lifts aren't cheap to put on, but what am I looking at to get it back near stock? And if I did, can I sell the parts I take off for anything to offset that cost? Thanks.

Drop bracket lift, cheaper to sell the truck and buy another.
A drop bracket replaces the front crossmember, you would need to cut that one out and weld the factory one back in.

Depends on what type of lift. From what I can see that looks like a 6" DB lift, which will cost you more than you want to hear. You'd have to re-weld the cross member bc DB lifts cut it. Not even worth it if you want to take off the lift IMO

    Hello,

As a new owner of a Tacoma I will have many questions, sure not the best but I hope to learn. Is my truck "lifted"? is so about how much? If not would you lifted if it was your truck? Are there any future risk when a truck is lifted? In the future I would want to add a grill bar, would that look good on my truck? What kind?

Welcome to tacomaworld! No your truck is not lifted. If it was my truck, I would lift it. There are virtually no risks as long as you either know what you are doing during install or have a good shop install it. Do some internet research to see how big you would want to go and what type of lift you want. It depends on what type of driving and off roading you do. The general consensus is 3". I have a 6.5" lift but I'm way younger than most people on here, so we have different tastes and needs from our trucks. The thing to remember when starting to do stuff to your truck is to do what YOU like to it. Never do anything to it unless YOU like it. I get a lot of crap on here for the size of my lift, but those people can get bent because I like it. Always do research on something before you buy it and if you don't know how to install it, or if you're not good with tools, get a good shop to do it, research them as well. You can get whatever bar you like. The cheaper the bar, the worse it will be. Theres Rigid bars which are very good but very expensive and theres $60 bars on eBay too. You would also need a mounting bracket for the bar too. I dont think it would look bad as it is, but it would look better with a black mesh grille or something similar. Bottom line, figure out how you want your truck to look, your budget and how you want your truck to function. Do internet research and go from there, all of your answers are online haha. Dont hesitate to use this website for ideas or help too. Have fun and kiss your paycheck goodbye

You are awesome. Thanks for your time. Great advice. I do intent to do a lot more outdoors stuff, camping and sight seeing so I do want my truck to reflect that attitude and equipped it with what might be useful on camping trips, not off-road things. I have two little ones. I'm glad I found this site. Thanks.

    One part of me says...

"Welcome to Tacoma World, you've come to the right place. Stick around and you'll learn about everything you want to know."

The other part of me wants to say...

"RUN AWAY, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IF YOU VALUE YOUR FINANCIAL SECURITY AND CREDIT SCORE LEAVE NOW AND FORGET YOU EVER FOUND THIS PLACE"

...either way, I'm only trying to help ;)

I have to say you are right. Sitting in my garage is a beautiful truck that I never imagine I would have and now I'm looking at ways to change it or "make it better". I'ts only been 3 weeks since I bought it. I think I'll follow your advice and walk away. Maybe come back in 5 years. I've spend more time looking at other people's trucks than admiring mine. Thanks. You have saved me.

haha I was only half joking and coming from a place of personal experience. Ever since I got my Tacoma a few months ago I've spent quite a bit of money on mods, getting it to where I want it to be for my purposes. On the flip side, I've discovered a passionate new hobby that I really enjoy and made some friends along the way, and I don't think it's money wasted at all.

It's just sort of a running joke on this forum, once you get the bug there's no turning back. But this site is good for a whole lot more than just ideas for mods, it's a great place to turn for advice on maintenance, repairs, off-topic banter, etc. I probably spend more time on here than I should lol, but hey....there's worse things I could be doing...like robbing banks.

Then again, that could help pay for mods. Hmmmmm...

that's the thing, I feel I'm getting the bug. I'm looking at prices and that's a bad sign. No, really you have saved me. I'll stay connected when I have issues with my truck.
