Keep your right foot off the skinny pedal.

    Lower your speeds.
    Lower your RPMs.
    Lower your application of throttle.

Just keep throwin' money at it.
How bad is really bad? The Tacoma isn't particularly known for its aerodynamics. To improve MPGs you would need to be more conscious of your gas pedal.
    Also:
    • Drop extra weight from the truck.
    • Drive less stop and go/short trips (commuting or little trips).
    • Make sure you air filters are clean as well as all parts properly lubed.
    • The 33's are going to have an impact too. Make sure they are properly inflated.

Unfortunately, when you buy a truck, you are automatically not allowed to complain on gas mileage anymore. lol

    Only way: Change driving habits.

I seriously think my truck gets the same mileage whether it's floored or driving like a granny. After my lift and tires I try to use the gearing in first and second to accelerate harder and then let off and cruise through the other gears. This seems better than chugging it through second to fifth as far as work on the engine. Like i said gas mileage is negligible

What's "amazing"? Because most diesels I know of get about 13-15. Sure some will hover around 20 on the highway... But a diesel vs a gas powerplant are very different animals.

They might get amazing FUEL mileage out of a Diesel but they defiantly do not get great gas mileage. Diesel engines have a tough time running on gasoline.

What if i upgraded my intake, or any performance mods. Wouldnt an increase in hp help with gas mileage cause it would turn the tires easier?

I'm not saying otherwise! lol I was making a joke! :)
It's just a little funny when someone says: I have a truck, I have a 7" lift and big ass tires....how come does my truck needs that much gas!

I'm not meaning to offend you here.

How much are you making? If you are around 15-16 I'll say it's not that bad considering that the new 3,5 3rd gen makes around 19-20 stock...

    No.
More performance also needs more fuel.

More performance = more power = more combustion.

    *usually.
