I want to be able to play my ipod directly through aux. Is there a way to run a wire to the audio player?

there are a lot of companies making products that will allow you to keep your stock stereo and get an aux input and ipod connection but for slightly more money you can buy a aftermarket unit that will give you better sound than the stock unit and have an aux input right on the front... such as the sony xplod cdx-gt130. you could get this installed for less than $150 and i think those adapters are going for a little over $100

obviously you are going to get what you pay for and this is a very low end model, so there are a lot of choices, but i'll always reccommend getting a aftermarket deck... every car i will ever own will get a aftermarket stereo even if i leave the rest stock :D

    This is what I bought:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYO...mQQptZCar_Audio_Video?_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

The actual item looks different than what's shown in the pic in the eBay ad....it actually looks like this:

It's a little box that has both an aux adapter and a cable plug specifically for an iPod. It has a harness that simply plugs into the back of the factory head unit.

I cut a hole in my console between my 12V outputs very carefully and painstakingly with a utility knife to fit the box (the box is a weird irregular shape so I traced the outline of the end of the box on a piece of paper, cut out the paper, and used it as a template on the plastic console for my utility knife cut).

If you cut a hole for it like I did, you have to be careful to feel around inside the console panel (requires skinny fingers to fit back there) with the climate control panel removed. You need to feel for two ribs of plastic and make sure your hole is centered between the ribs. The adapter box is slightly wedge shaped, so cut the hole on the small side and then wedge the box into the hole from the inside of the console to get it to fit snuggly.

I just glued it into my hole with some multi purpose quik bond adhesive. It worked out very nicely and sounds great:

The ipod cable that comes with it plugs right in to your ipod and even charges it, and you can control the ipod remotely with your head unit and steering wheel controls.

Shows text from the ipod? I have a pa-11 that I had in my corolla. Didn't show text, And I didn't grab the cable out of it that goes to the unit.

they are getting better, but the taomca deck sucks- you're going to sit here and tell me that your it's good when the only audio adjustment that it had besides fade and balance is bass & treble +-3? That's pathetic even for a stock system.

I think stock speakers are much better these days (especially if it's a premium speaker system) but the decks still aren't quite up to par, besides there are so many benefits for doing just an aftermarket deck... and it can always be removed and the stock deck re-installed.

i installed car stereos for about 4 years and have done over 50 different models of vehicles... and i still haven't found one that i'd be willing to leave the stock deck installed

Im useing a PA15-TOY with very good results. All steering controls work, and it gives an extra RCA input, and a satilite input. I have my Ipod in the cubby on the left side of the wheel.

Metra Axxess box like in the pics above except mine is just behind the radio in the dash & the ipod/3.5mm aux cables are in the glove box. They have enough slack to hold device in pass or drvr seat to futz with. Base model here with no steering wheel controls. Paid 53.00 shipped off amazon so I guess mine is the budget one. No ipod txt, just charges & plays. Mp3 player to 3.5mm cable just plays. Didn't hook up a grnd loop isolator so when charging mp3 player you have to listen to something else, if it needs charging. Mine run run long time. :D

New disc takes a bit more work- Like putting together the brakets, making sure you have the right wiring harness, and having a dash face plate for the new unit- but even that is pretty easy!!!

so if I got a new stereo at lets say future shop, cause I might have a hook up on a wicked deal, where would I get the new dash face plate to match it?
