Went out this morning to crank my tacoma,it was spinning faster than normal, just didn't sound right. It started to crank, then it back fired out the exhaust.I unhooked my fuel line from the filter and turn the motor,so it's not the fuel pump.

If it sounds like its free wheeling with no compression sound then you probably broke a timing belt, assuming its a 3.4.

If it is the 3.4 pull the upper timing cover and look.

No need to remove the upper hose just slide the clamp front

The 2.7L has a chain not a belt, so unless you've been hearing some rattle for a while, the most likely reason it would have jumped is if the tensioner broke or came out.

If the chain was really loose, the tensioner could have come all the way out of it's mounting point, but you should hear some new noises as it would likely be getting into the gears.

Have you been hearing any abnormal noises leading up to this event?

No,I think it is fuel related. It started having a rough idle recently.I have changed both fuel filters, put 93 octane in it.In gear I've noticed the idle would slowly get lower and lower and I would have to tap the gas to keep it running.

What would it be if it is getting to much fuel?I pulled several of plugs out and turned the motor over, the plugs are firing but soaked with fuel.I got 4 new plugs and put in it,same result.Time to get it towed to shop.

Maybe the fuel pump isn't making enough pressure. Enough to come out of the lunge but not enough to run the engine
