Tokico shocks were included in the TRD Off Road Package instead of Bilsteins on 2001 - 2004 Double Cabs.

I hope this will help you out or help answer your questions. This is a VIN number decoder pdf link, that may or may not tell you your options on your truck. I'm trying to get on it to see if it will tell you your options, but I can't get on it because of a bad internet connection. But when you can get back home you can look it up after you get the VIN number.

But it will also tell you other useful things like where your truck was made, or color or whatever. I used it before but I can't remember if it told you your options.

    Here it is: http://www.weber.edu/wsuimages/autom...N%20Toyota.pdf

Never mind, I finally got on but it doesn't show you if it has a TRD option or not. But I would suggest you still go on it and you can find out about other things on your truck.

I would say that you may have to wait in till you get home to look at your truck and see if you can find that Diff. lock button. Or get under your truck to see if your rear Diff. looks like this:

Im a bit confused on this topic... If I have a 04 4x4 and don't have the locker button I DONT have a locker correct? Is this a much didn't thing on a 4x4? My truck has 16' wheels and 265/70/16...

If you don't have a locker control switch on your dash, you don't have a Toyota / TRD electric locker.

The optional 16" wheels and 265/70/16 tires were bundled within the TRD Off Road Package as of your model year (2004), *BUT* they were also offered as a standalone option. So you could have the same wheels / tires as a TRD package without having the TRD package itself.

I have a 99 "TRD" 3rz Manual, but the only thing TRD on it is the stickers on the bed, lol.

The 4 cylinders as far as I can tell do not come with a differential locker, just better suspension (bilstiens).

And since the shocks were replaced in my truck, the TRD stickers are just to look cool.

The factory e-locker was never available (even with the TRD Off Road Package) on 4-cylinder automatics in the first generation.

It was supposedly available with the TRD package on 1999 4-cylinder manual 4X4 XtraCabs.

Sorry for the Bump on such a old thread, but I have a question regarding my 2015 that I would love some insight. It appears that the truck I have ordered, mind you selected from the ones that were available when they left Texas to go to the distributor, was originally supposed to be a TRD PRO. The reason why I know this is because when I was at the dealer trying to find one, they said that they could get the TRD before it made it to the distributor, and change it to a SR5 package. I guess here comes my question, I receive the car in a week, and per the VIN number that is already assigned to the truck, it should have all the TRD items, but will be marked as a SR5. I wonder if anyone would know if that means there going to give me a TRD differentials (locker/a-trac) but just not have them "fully installed". If you catch where I am going, the rear differentials are different from the SR5/TRD/TRD OR, so if I get lucky they will have the TRD Differential and hopefully its a few cheap parts at the dealer and I can get them fully functional. So ultimate question, has this happened to anyone? Thanks!

So, is a Tacoma a TRD if it has the rear differential locking capabilty? I have a SR5 and the locking rear differential in my 2007. There are no TRD decals on the truck and the original owners manual is missing. I was told by the seller that it was a TRD.

You'll probably get more responses if you post your question in the 2nd gen section. For most of use here, our knowledge of Tacomas stop with the '04 model year.

2004 dblcab.trd sr5. Vin says trd. Has shocks, etc...but no switch. Was there a autolock or limited slip or something else? Is there something under the truck to look at that might tell me.
Maybe gray wire mod was done and switch removed? Just can't explain why no switch.

    No.

The e-locker actuator is mounted on the rear diff, on the drivers side on the front side of the axle next to the pinion.

One explanation is, some TRDs didn't get the e-locker. For what ever reason, Toyota didn't include it in the package if the truck has a 4 cylinder and auto trans.

If the rear diff is supposed to be used in 4wd low, y would a 2wd have it.

Since you have the V6 if your truck was a trd model you would have the e locker switch. Its really that simple. Look on the diff just like @Digiratus said if you want to be absolutely sure there is no locker
