I’m sure I thought the 5100’s were nice when I first installed them too.

After you ride in something with a really good suspension, 5100’s feel like a covered wagon.

I'm definitely following this thread. We have a Raptor and a Tacoma, I'd love to make the Taco ride like the Ford.

I had a fifth generation 4Runner with icons with the external reservoirs with springs that were properly tuned for the load weight rating I was running, and it rode ridiculously smooth.

We can certainly help get your Tacoma riding super nice compared to how it rides now. Comparing it to a Raptor is a bit tough though, two very different trucks.

Please don't even attempt this without spending a shit ton of money and going full long travel.

I thought I could do the same, and ASSUMED mid travel with custom valved shocks, lots of cool suspension parts, and lots of work would get me there. Unfortunately we can't get past geometry and other matters far beyond our control.

I've never rode in a long travel Tacoma, but my personal truck with Fox 2.5's, Archive Garage Hammer hangers, Icon RXT leafs, etc does not ride super nice. On some low speed stuff it's pretty cushy, but I have my adjusters set pretty much full soft. This means it rolls a ton through the corners. On the fast bumps, rough fire roads, big pot holes that you hit at a decent speed, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Whoa! Thanks for the reality check.

The Gen 1 Raptor suspensions seems pretty basic. I didn’t think it would be that difficult to match.

I have tens of thousands into my truck. I’m pretty sure a bone stock raptor could out perform my truck in every aspect. :rain:

Do you have a build thread? I'd like to see what went into that.

It probably won't happen, but Toyota should build a factory long travel Tacoma (special edition). People would snap them up.

Would you still run the AG hammer hangers if you had to do it again or would you leave the stock leaf shackle mounts?

I'm pretty happy with the way my truck is right now, and I'm not in a position to spend other peoples money for them. They are not a cheap purchase nor a super simple install. That said, I would buy them again, but I'd only recommend them with the cross brace, which means you'll need to do something about your spare tire which is once again more money and more headaches.

If it makes you feel any better my truck is full long travel and does great off road and but suuuuucks on road. Everyone that rides in it comments on how stiff it is. It’s valved super light as well.

I'd like to send my Fox's back to see if the high speed can be softened up a little more. But right now it's my daily so kinda stuck.

I'm on 14" 600lb springs and I'm definitely at the limits weight wise for those up front. Rides great on road til you hit something big. Could be way softer on fast fire roads too.

The rear I like because it seems to be more in the middle of everything. Not super soft on the low speed stuff, not super stiff on the fast stuff.

The more you use it, the more you find things to play with.

Unfortunately its always a compromise. Better on street or better off-road. Have you played around with your DSC adjusters at all?

DSC adjusters have been played with, low speed, high speed, varying ranges of tire pressures, the works.

I can't seem to get much change on my Fox's with the high speed being played with, the low speed I can definitely feel the changes.

The low speed side of the house feels great, I can get it super cushy, or I can stiffen up the adjusters and kill some of the body roll. The high speed is just too stiff for my liking.

If the fire road is is rolling and relatively smooth, I can blast down it (say 30mph) If it's got any amount of washboard features to it, it will shake my truck apart at much over 5mph.

Maybe I'm expecting too much? But I feel with a re-valve they could be closer. Truck will be a daily for another year or so, then it will probably be time for a rebuild anyways.

Right on, well we are certainly happy to get you a revalve when needed.
