Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
I can remember Going to CBGB's Gettng off the subway a couple blocks away and running like hell to get there. I went down in June of 06' The place was Clean as could be. Felt safer in the Bowery, than in the city of Albany.
The city (Manhattan)is not what it used to be. AS for cheap... Depends on what you want to do. I spent as much as $400 in a day, Or as little as $40 in a day As for trains, You would have to drive to Syracuse. I think Greyhound runs buses to and from the port Authority. But who wants to take a bus.
there are plenty of free things to do! Just need to take subways, Cabs, or buses to get around.
You could brave it and drive!
I used to love driving in Manhattan. (Not the parking though!)

YES bowery was skid-row for decades, a very common place in movies, books, literature.

the halfway house is still there, but it's next to a $10,000,000 museum. the bowery is one of the most expensive places in manhattan, and thus one of the most expensive places to live in the world
