Straight to the point, I have little experience negotiating, but I know what I want at a minimum which was $12k for a 2013 crv ex, and no doc fees. Was I not asking for enough?

I ended up getting 13k for my car (lots of fine scratches), no doc fee, 2k off msrp, and over $1200 (now $1500) in accessories thrown in. He tried to finance the accessories I said I'm still paying then with interest, and he took them right off.

I feel pretty damn good, but so I have a false sense of accomplishment? I mean, Toyota is known for not discounting new vehicles, around here anyway, Vancouver, BC. I haven't signed anything yet as it will be done on delivery, but I have it all in writing. I bought a white 2020 Taco Sport (Canadian, not sport upgrade). MSRP is $43,750.

    Thanks for your input ppl!

I agree brother, but I like input to know if I should've/still should try for more? And just plain old feedback to see how I did being inexperienced.

    Thanks for accurate statement though!

    Welcome to TW!

I paid 39000 for my 2018. They gave me like 3500 off , surprisingly. I went to 4 different dealerships for best price. Ended buying from new west toyota.

which dealer did you go man?

Just west coast in maple ridge on my parents' recommendation to a specific salesman. I know it's best practice to go to other dealerships, but I'm a tired night shifter! Haha. Considering it's more than what I wanted I'm debating just keeping this deal.

Did they throw in anything else for you? If you factor everything except my trade I got 2k off, no doc fee ($550), and $1200+ in accessories. So with that formula it's $3750 off, and 1k more than I expected for my trade.

And thanks for the welcome! I've been creeping for over a month after I bailed on a new RAM, and feel like I'm making a solid decision!

The only thing you could do different is try to private sell your CRV which should be easy enough to do in Vancouver. How ever you said you’re a lazy night shifter which means you’d have to meet up with people during your off hours.

So take deal and call it a day. Lol

What is the $1200 in accessories though? Tonneau and a pro grill?

Victoria, B.C in summer. Sun Peaks, B.C. in winter
    Vehicle:
    2019 TRD 4X4 AC OR 6M/T
I paid $42k CDN with running boards and all weather floor mats for 2019 TRD AC OR M/T (no tech or premium package). They gave me $3k (wholesale price) off that for my '06 Volvo XC70. I think it was an OK deal but I should have bargained harder but I was too focused on the 1.99% financing. It had 200k so I got a chit for a tank of gas in addition to the full tank upon delivery.

Since the truck will mostly be used as a winter ski vehicle near Sun Peaks Resort in the B.C. interior I was going to try and get them to include their overpriced $455 block heater. But then I realized that there are no mechanics at Toyota or anywhere in Victoria that have ever installed a block heater so I decided, screw it I will just get a block heater installed at an auto shop in Kamloops for less than half of Toyota's price.

Trying to get a big discount on a brand new model year truck will not be as effective as a price on a 2019. Check on a similar 2019 and see how that goes.

Dealers are trying to clear out the 19's. If you want a 20 go for it.

Haha, I want the bakflip mx4 which they don't sell, but I ran out of things to ask for! So far it seems I've done well. Expecting someone to shred my deal apart though.

Here's the thing when trading in. They will give you whatever you want for your trade in and just make it up on the other end. For example they would of given you 15 K for your car if they could of full popped you on the taco. Whatever your hot button is, they play to it. Anyway, not sure on your deal, but generally you always do better selling your own car than trading in. That being said, it's also nice to just get it done and like hipsi said if you are happy then....

Backflips pop up all the time on Craigslist, there’s one in north van for $850. No need to pay full price on those.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I picked it up Saturday and love it! I was able to get them to throw in a bed extender too, so $1500+ in accessories now for free!

Yep, I bought my '17 when the '18's came out and saved $4K CND. They gave me $1k less than what I wanted to sell my '09 CRV for, so it was a no-brainer, not trying to sell it myself.

I also had the following thrown in.

Winter tire/rim package (They offered it before I even spoke)
    Tri-fold soft top tonneau cover.
    Pro Grill
OEM Tub Mats (Almost as good as Weathertech)

I think I did VERY WELL.
