Definitely redo the thing but don't sweat the mistake.

Rattle-canning a grill is cheap and a chance to learn. Lots of people around here have made FAR more expensive mistakes than you. ;) Props to getting into the truck and trying stuff yourself!

wow, I was hoping this was a joke but like (almost) everyone else said, dont worry its not the end of the world. Dont let these fools make you feel bad for trying but definately do some homework before you start your next project.

I’d just get a new grill and write this one off. Be sure to get any overspray off the hood and rubber etc. ASAP. You can use the old grill to build your skills or just chuck it. Good paint work is all about prep. Find some auto body and paint web sites to get a baseline of knowledge before attempting another project like this.

Well, as I have no knowledge about painting (aside from taping off what you don't want covered), perhaps someone with lots of knowledge could provide a primer guide :)

e.g. What do you need to do to paint your grille / eyelids / engine cover...

Would be a great guide for many to come... any painting pros willing give idiot proof instructions?

    wowzers...
you prob had enough with the "it looks like dog shit" comments.. mask the grill and paint the two outer triangles black. chop the center out and pay close attention to the satoshi write ups. do the satoshi. paint the inner part of the grill black and wet sand and clear coat the white part of the surround?
or throw it away and start over
there is hope man....just takes time and a lot of patience

It’s obvious by your truck that you have a lot of skill. But do you want to build your skills on your only grill? I say get a new grill so the truck doesn’t look like dog shit then take all the time in the world to get the old grill right.

    very good point.
pick up a spare chrome grill surround. plenty of them for sale these days. and take your time and get the old/original one right.or drive around with the one you painted until you get the new one squared away.

I think you should just paint the rest of the truck to match!

What he's trying to say is to remove the grille, use a flat-head screw driver to pop the 2 trim fasteners on each end of the top of the grille. The use a 10mm socket ratchet to remove the 2 10mm bolts that attach the grille to the radiator support. The grille emblem comes off easily by 3 clips on the back. Just use your fingers to push them out.

Guys, if he wasn't able to paint the grille alone, don't talk him into trying the recessed grille mod. The last thing you want to happen is to see him post pics of fiber glass and resin everywhere.

i wouldnt go as far as saying he can't or shouldn't do it, he just needs to take his time and read all the instructions STEP BY STEP:D. He probably rattle canned the grill while it was still on the Truck with no prep or masking.
but i see where you are comin from

I'd say take two! Just black everything out with black paint and do it over. focus on the detail. I think the grill is still usable.

Yea. Like my stock rims. If only I knew now what I didn't know then. They would look 10 times better.
