I seriously doubt the frame is bent, it goes into my buddies (owns a well known foreign vehicle repair shop) shop every 5k (or after a long trip) and inspected on a lift, nothing out of the ordinary underneath...we didn't think to check the bed bolts though, thinking that's it. My rack has been clunking a bit more than usual, and I bet it's actually the bed I'm hearing...

Seen that a few times with old square body Chevys. Wheeling, flexed to the point where the cab contacts……it happens with ya play twister.

I agree with this. Noticed it second I saw the pic. Wider gap at bottom, much closer at top of bed near where the dent occurred. This could simply be that the truck is currently twisting the frame since the truck is on uneven ground... but i'm feeling like the gap should be opposite with the passenger rear tire unloaded...

A day or two after a recent snow storm I noticed the space between the cab and bed was filled with frozen snow/ice on my truck. I imagine that could cause dents like this.

Have you ever had your truck really loaded up with gear in the bed when you went wheeling? I'd also take a look into the JD fab frame braces as they in general will help with frame flex so things like this don't happen.

I'd also imagine that rack having a load, could generate lots of force, especially if off-roading with it loaded.

I saw picture #1 and immediately thought that the bed is not positioned correctly. I can comfortably place all of my fingers between front rail and cab with room to spare, but there's not nearly enough room for my palm knuckles. Same goes for the gap between fender and cab pillar. I can see the weather gasket and there's plenty of room to wiggle a finger, but not the palm.

(I got a lot of experience in this because the dang car wash keeps untucking my softopper. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:)

So either the bed is misaligned and/or loose, and/or the frame is tweaked.

I think that 1st picture is deceiving, there is equal space on both sides between the bed and cab.
    20240128_123247.jpg
Same amount of space, stopped by the palm knuckles maybe 3/4" on both sides

Maybe the bed rack is causing the bed to flex Incorrectly ?

You're probably right, pictures are confusing. Here's what I got:

3/4" from front rail to window gasket. (Photo is cheating an additional 16th because I put it at the corner of the gasket.) Looks like 1 1/8" rail to cab. Also 1 1/8" from center of side rail to cab.

    PXL_20240216_201104201~2.jpg

Sounds like you're in that neighborhood, so maybe it's a loose bed.

I think it's just a combination of all of this, wheeling when loaded, plastic bed, flexy frame, dragging ass through creeks...

Maybe I'll put stickers over the dents and see if I can do it again

Check for elongated holes. The bed appears shifted forward a few ticks.
