20 years in SR5's here. Snow, pastures, corn fields, boat launching, minimum maintenance roads... never stuck. Unless your pushing limits "for fun", and you use your head, the SR5 is a capable litttle truck.

This is really good information. Thank you for taking the time to explain the options and how they work.

I get my OR stuck all the time lol.

If I were buying today id probably get an SR5 now, I like the crawl and more importantly the MTS, but I'm pretty sure i could get an SR5 stuck just as easily as my OR.

For the money, grab an SR. Toss on some Wildpeaks, Duratracs, etc. Need more security, get some maxtrax. Need more get a ARB and a winch. You'll still be under the cost of a TRDOR with the same tires.

Eh, you're still missing some key features for some. For me PTS and powered rear slider to start. The upgraded entune is much nicer than the hu that the SR has I'm as well. Dash is better on the OR as well. SR's don't have the inverter either do they?

I just built an SR optioned to as close as I could get it to my OR and it was listed at $2400 less than what my truck stickered at. It also listed at $2000 more than I paid, so someone could easily pay more for an SR than I did my OR... The mind boggles lol.

For me the SR is too much of a drop. SR5 though...

It's kinda funny when vehicle shopping... never in a million years would I have paid $1500 to upgrade my 2nd gen rear slider window to powered... and yet when looking at 3rd gens I see that powered rear window and think "yep, I need the OR with the powered slider. I don't really need crawl control, but MAN I'd love to have a powered rear window"... those marketers know what they're doing very well.

Now if we could get them to add a powered drivers seat... you know, they're not gonna do that until 2024 so they can get all the 3rd gen-ers to get a 4th gen.

I only got an OR cause the dealership didn't have SR5 or SR in 4x4. I was really wanting a 4cyl 4x4 cause twas more realistic with my needs at the time but those are a rare find.

This is a great summary, thanks for sharing and putting this together. A lot of the reasoning for why I personally thought sr5 is a better route than trd OR or pro

I bought a sr5 and am happy but really with i had a locker. Aftermarket needs to pick up the slack and offer a manual (cable actuated) or electric option for under 1000.00. A cable actuated locker would be super reliable and not require air hoses or compressor.

How much is an ARB Locker installed? I seen one of the install videos and it didn't look like it would be cheap.

3FAD1D16-48CC-42B7-BC12-9DC1D2BD9C3B.jpg I know this isn’t third gen, but sr5 with a hidden winch has done everything I’ve ever needed to. And it was way cheaper than adding lockers or buying an OR

I've been only driving SR5's for over 20 years. No issues. I learned to offroad without all that fancy bs.

Man, I like the look of that front end so much better than 3ed gen. Also like that the whole front end seems shorter from front to back. Good lookin rig there!

Thanks! I like to keep the look simple, just need to get rid of the tube steps and replace them with some sleek black sliders :bananadead:

Ha I'm usually alone, with patchy cell coverage, and a long way from help, so I can't take any chances. Gotta choose a line wisely. Sure would be fun to roll the dice a little more often but I'm always thinking about the potential consequences of 12 seconds of "fun"! An otherwise enjoyable outing can go south real quick!
