Done! 5 minute job plus another 15 to swap the handles with the replacement ones and it is good to go*. Thanks for the Christmas gift of showing me the right way!

*On another note, replacing the handles is similar to replacing the tarp, and it is a very easy job. Good to know should it ever rip.

I’m jumping in late and agree with those that don’t like OEM TCs. However, it depends on your needs and use. I love the Diamondback Tonneau Covers. They aren’t traditional in styling but they meet my needs and I like the look.

I have an Extang Exceed, which I bought for $842 on sale, and then also got $100 rebate in addition, with tax and minus rebate it came out to $811, including shipping, couldn't be happier. It flips up and out of the way giving you almost the complete length of the bed if you are hauling something tall, and I love the way the tonneau latch works. Hopefully it will wear as well as my previous Extang Tonneaus.

I like, similar to the bakflip in design but looks better fit and finish. Is the top vinyl?

No, it is aluminum, with a rubber type covering on top. It seems quite durable, not too sure about how it will fare in the hot Texas sun though.

Ya I know the construction and underside is aluminum, I was referring to the top, lol. Looks good, just checked Extang website guess top is vinyl. Thanks!

I wouldn’t call it vinyl, I’ve had a vinyl tonneau before, it’s a rubberized compound that Exceed calls EnduraCoat, a moisture-proof covering for added weather resistance and Extang’s most advanced cover to date. The one thing I have noticed with the covering is that it has some self healing properties. Then I first pulled the tonneau out of the box there was a small indentation on one part of the cover created in shipping. I did not notice this until after I had already put the rails on, so I decided to install the cover anyway, just to see how it looked and fit. My thought was that I had 30 days return window so I would try it out a bit before sending back. The next day I went to check the spot where the indentation was and it was gone. The covering seemed to heal itself. Pretty cool, and it was a very pleasant surprise.63C093A8-B6EE-4D4D-9427-E075431BDF9B.jpg

Nice, weird the extang rep refers to it as vinyl in the SEMA press video, ya I'm shopping covers and Im not a fan of the vinyl look which is why I asked.

Nor am I, the Exceed looks really good on my truck. Here is the link to the Extang website with a description of the tonneau EnduraCoat and better photos.

I do wish that you could remove it easier, but that's the price you pay for the flush mount look.

Thanks man, I like the look alot too, I was looking at the revolver but heard poor cold weather performance and tearing, thought about sentry ct but the cloth worries me and also fitment issues. This seems like a great option. I had a bakflip mx4 that didnt survive a small hail storm so not going that route again.

I can't attest to cold weather performance, especially living in Central Texas, and there may be an issue with some of the rubber external weather stripping along the bed sides in the cold, but in my research, I did not come across that type of complaint. If I had no budgetary concerns, I would probably have a hard slat retractable, but I just could not justify the price.

Yes, there are so many options, it is hard to decide. There are many opinions on what is the best way to go, and it appears that quality control is uneven with many manufacturers. Too bad they don't have the $100 rebate on the Exceed still. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

We'll I've had a bakflip and the quality was pretty crummy in my opinion dad has the mx4 and one small hail storm destroyed it. I like the fit and finish of the extang from the videos I've been watching. But I like the roll up design as well. I really like the cloth look of the sentry ct but have seen some ugly reviews and not may either. As you mentioned, definitely a tough decision. Or I just keep my OEM, just not a fan and have a few people who want it.

Strongly considering the Extang Xceed, how are you liking yours? How long does it take to totally remove? I like the fact you can open all panels and especially the rotary lock.

I installed it and think its a solid cover, very similar to the bakflip minus the aesthetics (vinyl top or enduracoat, whatever they call it, its vinyl though) and the rotary lock is cool, I didn't really like the look and just couldn't live with it, returned it and went with a bakflip mx4 instead, solely looks based for me, solid cover.

Thanks TB. I don't really care for the look that much, would rather the aluminum panels show on top, but I do like the fact you can still use your OEM bed rails. Looking at the Bakflip MX4 instructions, the tonneau cover rails cover the OEM rails up, correct?

Both relocate and allow use of rails, like I said they are almost identical minus a few aesthetics and the rotary lock (also both made by TruckHero). If you removed the cover you'd have a hard time recognizing which was which. The prop rod is different between the two as well (prefer bakflip version, extang is kinda flimsy and has been known to break from reviews prematurely).

Well now I'm really confused, the "Supplemental Sheets" for the Tacoma appear to show the OEM rails covered up by the tonneau rails (see middle of page down some), did you use a mounting method off the main instructions?
