How do I add a tailgate switch to the OEM / Factory bed lights?

I have OEM bed lights. They have a toggle switch in the cab with 3 settings - on / off / on with door open.
I want to add a switch in the bed - either a pressure switch so it's on with tailgate open or a side mounted toggle switch to turn them on manually. I'm happy either way.

I just don't know how without removing the factory wiring and rewiring straight to the battery.

Or can I tap into the factory harness? Then I could mount the switch but would need to leave the cab toggle set to ON at all times???

    Help!!!

Dont know the answer, but tagging for a response. This would actually be a great mod.

Are you fine with having them ON at same time with cab light and doors closed?

    That would probably be OK.

Switch pin to tailgate, parallel with door courtesy switch. Loom the wire, run it alongside the frame wire to tailgate. Keep Cargo Lamp Switch on "DOOR".

Male & female connector to place inline to courtesy switch so you don't fudge the wire tap and can return to OEM.

Run a separate wiring harness from the battery (or from an aux fuse block if you have one), use a 4 pin relay and a stand alone switch.

Determine which wire turns on the lights from the harness and tap into that one. You can use any kind of switch you want from there. A button switch, toggle, latching, etc. This way, the switch will only run the bed lights and not the lights in the cab.

Just another option to have them function as a stand alone circuit. :notsure:
