So, its been about two months now since I retrofitted my headlights with an HID and projector kit. For the past couple of weeks Ive noticed the inside of my lenses becoming more and more "foggy". I have taken many long looks at them and I'm certain that it isn't moisture but instead a film caused by "off-gassing" of something inside the fixture. However, based on what Ive read, off-gassing is normally only caused if you use a silicone sealant, which (to the best of my knowledge I didn't. During the install I used JB-Kwik and some epoxy putty. To seal the lenses I used the Butyl Rubber supplied from TRS. My set-up is FX-R projectors with XB55(50W) ballasts.

I really hate that theyre clouding up and I know that if I disassemble I cant just wipe the lenses clean, due to scratching. And plus it will just happen again. Has anyone experienced this issue in the past? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to prevent/fix the problem?

You sure its not on the outside? Mine looked like that after my retrofit and I too thought it was on the inside. I was able to clean it up using meguiars plastx and a microfiber towel, however it does come back slowly.

Had the same issue with mine as I used a lil bit of silicone (not knowing of outgassing) to help secure the halos and the shroud. I just split the lenses again and wiped them clean. But you said you hadn't used silicone so Idk. I didn't think the epoxy or jb would do that but maybe. Hopefully you can just wipe it off. Or maybe it is just moisture and hasn't escaped yet. Only gonna find out when you take it apart.. But the good thing is, it should probably be done outgassing since its been a couple weeks. it shouldn't outgas anymore unless you've gone on short drives in those two weeks with the projectors on. I would probably wait a little while longer and turn your headlights on at all times until you get around to splitting it just to be sure so it doesn't outgas again. Maybe there's a better way but that's what I did..

Thanks for the responses guys. But yeah im sure its on the outside. And thats a good idea about running it a little while longer before I split them and clean them. Any suggestions on how to clean the inside of the lenses without scratching them? Just soap and water then air dry?

Yeah just light soap and water. Dry them off with a good cloth and buff them a lil by hand. If you let air dry you'll have water spots probly. Again hopefully that's all it'll take.As long as whatever it is that outgassed didn't harden. The stuff on mine from silicone pretty much wiped right off with no streaking or residue or anything.

So time for an update. I ran the truck with my lights always on for a few weeks just to get as much of the off-gassing process over with as I could. I popped the headlight back in the oven. I cleaned the inside of the lens with dish soap and hot water (cold water was not effective) and just rubbed it clean with my hands. I used a blow drier to dry the inside of the lens and then let them air dry for a few hours before reassembling. I applied a fresh bead of butyl rubber and resealed them. Good as new! (for now) We'll see if it comes back.

Thinking back, I used a second brand of epoxy putty after I ran out of the first one on the passenger headlight. This would explain why the passenger headlight did not experience the same issue. I don't remember the brand of the putty but I'm sure that that is the culprit.

But thanks again for all the input guys, its very much appreciated.
