    Logic goes like this.

Dump the Dodge, repairs and weak MPG

Camry for a 3 month commitment to determine maintenance and fuel cost improvements.

At the end of 3 months, if she doesnt like it, commit to shopping for a suitable RAV.

You'll have a better vehicle to sell or trade and 3 months of lower operating costs.

Nixay on the 'stubborn Italian' line. Stubborn comes in all flavors, its ethnicity independant.

We are missing some important information here. Like....Did you ask her? What did she say?

And finally, which is the better deal, the Camry or the wife? Stick with which one is better, ditch the other one. And when the Dodge craps out, as it inevitably will, refrain from any mention of the Camry.

Edit: My best man gave a toast at my second wedding. He offered the following advice.

"When it comes to a happy marriage, when you are wrong, admit it. When you are right, say nothing."

These posts always scare me a little. Honestly, not trying to be a dick here, but man up a little and just go for it if yall can afford it. Any relationship should always try and be close to 50/50. I'm always baffled when I see lopsided relationships where one side is the "gatekeeper". If you weren't working and she was the bread winner I could maybe understand, but that doesn't sound like the case here.

Damn bro. I think the issue is that it is her car or what she would be driving. I mean for me, I have several vehicles and my wife does not give me crap about what I choose to drive so I always pony up when she wants a new car. She also keeps hers on average about 8 years where I have been known to swap every three or so. I think it is more that it would be her daily. That said, I have also been the one to sell a new vehicle and drive something older when we were buying a house or something like that. So it just has to be a give and take.

Growing up my mom always had the $800 car or whatever my dad got her. I hated getting dropped at school or being seen in whatever she had but we didn't have much. Now I make sure my family is in a nice ride.

Maybe I misinterpreted it. I read it as they have the opportunity to pick up a nice car that the OP wants, but the wife vetoed it and wont budge.

My plan was 44's. but after carefully thinking about it, i'm thinking 37's for the mileage.

this is exactly what she does.

Only thing with this is we are not needing a car but her car just started acting up.

    Right on the rack

She tells me all the time she can't make decisions. I just don't want to hear bitching about it.

When i mentioned it earlier, she said she wanted to drive her car until the wheels fell off. Well, that may be happening soon. I have issues with the lugs (they are aluminum and strip easy), the throttle body is going out which is a common Chrysler/Jeep issue. The rear brake caliper sticks so the pad wear quickly. Its about 2 sets on the right to 1 set on the left.

16 is a solid year for the Camry. Not a lot of complexity or issues and, if it has been taken care of, would be a much better choice then what you have.

    You don’t convince her.
If she likes what she’s got, let her keep it.

Or you could sell your truck and buy the car? (Using this as an example of why you shouldn’t “convince” her)

    I drive a Miata.
I was in the same boat last year. She drove a shitbox Veloster that could magically oil-foul spark plugs before you could even install them. Steering rack had a death wobble, it was bleeding all over the driveway, and every two weeks I was clearing a misfire code.

Finally I crunched the budget and said "it costs this much to maintain, it will cost this much to repair, or we can send it to live on the farm and pay this amount for one that won't leave you stranded."

And that's how we bought a new car.

The Camry is a no brainer as far as reliability.

Tell her you're concerned with her safety in case she needs to accelerate quickly because the Journey can't get out of it's own way.

Nothing is sweeter than a paid off car. I wouldn't change if nothing is wrong with the car unless I'm going with a completely different route like getting a Tacoma or Jeep. How old and how many miles on the Dodge?

A few additions to make me feel cool.
My wife's last car was a 4Runner. She got very lightly rear-ended and only needed the rear bumper cover replaced. When the weather improved I turned it in for what should have been a 3 day stay at the shop. Long story short, between the shop doing a crap job and struggling to get parts it ended up being 5 weeks. The rental (comparable car) was a new Journey. Keep in mind her car was 6 years old and the Journey was brand new. She hated it. After a week she was on the phone trying to get a different rental and they were telling her it was a comparable car. Finally she yelled "this is like trading a diamond for a pile of shit". I was like WOW babe. And they didn't give you a new car.
