I wish! It would have been gone a long time ago.

As soon as the tip of the key is in the barrel, I hear it prime. I'm almost certain that it is no big deal, but I think that I would just think about too much.

I've seen the solution for autos, if you're on a stick you need to depress the clutch all the way before turning the knob to 4lo. At least that's how it works on my 2nd gen.

Your fuel pump only primes when the ignition is turned on. The key sense is only for the chime. Some vehicles you could get a Maintenance light if the vehicle doesn’t see this input. But I don’t remember toyota ever having an issue.

Doesn’t sound right, and must be new. Anything is possible I guess. But if that’s the case a smart key one must prime as soon as the RFID becomes recognized walking up to the truck. That wouldn’t make much sense to me

I’d be willing to bet it’s something with evap if anything

It could be? Or, just getting the low pressure side of the fuel system to pressure to keep the HP DI pump happy?

If I remember, I'll do a quick vid.

It has been doing it as long as I can remember. Not sure about 04B12 Stock, but I believe 04B13 Stock and on.

Don't you have to be in 4hi before you can go to 4lo, or can you go straight to 4lo from neutral? I can't remember now....

What the heck is wrong with you!!! Actually learning how to do or use something BEFORE you need it? That is not the TW way. The TW Way is get stuck, have a problem, blame Toyota, THEN look up on TW how to do it right. LOL.

Oh thanks for all the input on the OV Tune threads! Made doing mine much easier.

Yes! You cannot go from 2Hi directly to 4Lo. Although, you can go from 4Lo directly to 2Hi.

And, if you pull apart the selector knob, there are two tabs on the outer ring. Trim those off and then there's no need to push it in anymore.

Yup! I did it when painting the chrome ring.

Just watch those little plastic nubs on the springs. You don't want to lose them.

You can follow this vid for the work and can see the tab on the inside of the outer ring here, right as it is slipped off from the rest of the switch:

I think I faintly hear something. Hard to hear with all the moving around. But doesn’t seem like a fuel pump to me. I would have someone insert the key while you lay under the truck. You’d be able to tell for sure. Having installed remote starts for 15 years you’d have to tie into that circuit if it primed the fuel pump and there are no tech note or anything about it

:D It was a dead silent garage, but the mic just didn't pick it up as well as my rustling. The main goal was to show the key insertion and the sound. This was why I paused after the tip of the key hit the switch.

It definitely comes from under, but that is where everything of the sort is at anyway.

I don't believe it has the same sound as the running LPFP for the pressure test? That is definitely a motor-driven pressurization (I hear this on my bike as the FP will prime when the ignition fires up) versus this which sounds like a valve releasing stored pressure (like a drinking water valve on a fridge).

I will try two more ways.

-- Phone looking down over the steering, which will get the mic much closer to the window and allow the sound to be heard better.

-- I don't know if it will prime twice in a row, but I can put the phone under.

Regardless, my main goal here is to kill the key in chime that is activated by that same switch and not lose whatever other function that the switch does. My luck, someone will drop the chime killer programming bomb the day after I delete the speaker.
