Some folks skip that if they feel comfortable with the tech (I know I did). I hate spending any more time than I have to at dealerships.

However, he definitely should have done his homework, especially if carplay was that important to him. A lot of salesman don't know what hell they're talking about and will say whatever to get the sale.

I like it but it doesn't appear to work with android devices.

I have never had Apple CarPlay but I had the same idea of this 2019 JBL HU getting new firmware???

I also wish this JBL system would be a bit louder, I run mine wide open with my iPhone all the time.

I put an aftermarket pioneer head unit into my car to just get wireless car play. I am extremely happy with it. I was most excited to keep HD radio there’s a few stations near me that are really good. I’m going to be adding a front camera to it soon. And all I have to do is plug it into the ab cable. Seriously look into it

You choose either Android auto or carplay when you purchase it. Both work flawlessly.

I put an aftermarket KENWOOD in mine. I can’t remember what was installed so I can still use steering controls.

you’d need a harness for it but yes. I think I paid roughly 500? Not sure because I got other things at the same time.

SUB’d for future interest. I have to admit I didn’t think Apple CarPlay would be for me... my 2017 has no TSS ext because I’m not into that modern tech, however we just brought home a 2019 RAV4 Adventure for my wife and it has CarPlay, its freaking awesome and it keeps her damn phone out of her hands which I REALLY like. I’d be interested in a plug and play solution should it become available for the stock JBL. i actually really like having the factory Nav in mine because I off-road a lot and do a lot of driving in places with no cell service. It’s a nice back up to my phone/ tablet Nav system when service is spotty. I will say the factory Nav sucks compared to Apple but it’s good enough to get me somewhere without using the actual map on my tablet.

I didn't think I'd want Apple carplay as much as I did until I tried it out in my girlfriends Honda Civic. It's running the older version of carplay too. I'd kill to have the latest version in my '19 Tacoma. I actually uber my truck alot where I live and having carplay would be sweet. Staill waiting to see if the '20 HU is plug and play with the 19 harness. It might just be cheaper to trade in my truck for a '20 but finding a TRDOR in cement grey with a manual trans is going to be difficult as the first ones I see on Toyota's website won't be out until next month. https://www.toyota.com/search-inven...|TP|FE/accessory/FP4000/vin/5TFCZ5AN4LX44A183

With the wireless charging and wireless carplay being available I'm definitely going to be updating my HU for that purpose so that I don't need to mess with my phone since the onboard nav is garbage. Just put my phone down and it charges and navigates, lots of my rentals have carplay and I would use it just for the maps feature as its so much smoother, plus the UI is just so much more intuitive and functional compared to the entune software.

Interested in a cheaper option as well. CarPlay is good and dandy, but at $500 you might as well just spring for an aftermarket head unit.
