Enough of you people saying it's not worth it to modify your 4 cylinder truck for power. Not everyone has the money to just buy a V6. And even some of the people who do have the money to bump up to a beefier engine don't want to. It is fun to tinker around with your truck and try to squeeze hp out of it. I think just about everyone on this site is into customizing their trucks, otherwise you wouldn't be here. So what is the problem with working on your 4 banger. I have exactly the truck I want, and it just so happens I could not duplicate it in a 4.0 version without an engine swap...so that's why I do little mods here and there. My 2 cents.

    Fuck.

But to answer the question, throw on a header, clean your K&N regulary, and do the above that the other guys suggested. Good Luck.

I don't think the 4 banger will spin the tires if you are going, say 30 mph in 3rd and drop it to 2nd. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This reminds me, I haven't done a burnout or donut or anything really since I had to swap the clutch.

My 2000 could get a chirp at 65 mph with my 32's. :D I had an SC, Headers, and exhaust.

I’ve never tried to modify a 4 cylinder but I had a friend who spent thousands and said it didn’t make any difference. Lesson learned and it didn’t cost me a dime. If I wanted more power I’d refrain from putting a single penny into my truck and save up for a V6.

    HAHAHA wow really?
guessing you dont know too much about them eh?

4cyl engines can destroy alot of the engines out there. ive even seen vids of a 4cyl dominating a lambo.
ecotec, vtec, boxer.. all 4cyls and are BAAAD news.

haha and you say 4cyls are slow.. :D

i didn't say they CAN'T be fast, sure they can, with A LOT of money, turbo, nos, etc.
But were talking about a teenage kid with a normal 4 banger truck...

"there's no replacement for displacement" there's a reason people say that.

I'm pretty sure the '96s didn't have a 2.7L engine. They were smaller than that.

The 2.7L is the most powerful 4Cyl I've ever owned/ driven. I bought it for the fuel economy. I like to offroad and also like taking road trips. The 4x4 2.7L gives me the best of both.

When URD releases a Supercharger for my truck, I'll be getting one. :D

BTW, I just thought I'd share that my 2.7L I4 gets better HP (159 vs 150) and the same torque and my brother's V6 ranger.
