Try the 2 bucket method. You'll actually need to apply pressure with your dominant hand, then switch to your non-dominant hand when you experience fatigue. Stay away from drive through washes with spinning brushes

That had me laughing. Is it a reference to what Jake Gyllenhaal's character says in Jarhead?

Lotsa good info in this thread yet nothing to alleviate the OP's malady of "road grim".

I think its worser than "grime" so the tried and true washing techniques wont work?

This happened to me a few years ago, I think I had driven through a recently paved road and gotten tar along the whole bottom edge of the truck. I tried a variety of different car wash products and no matter how much scrubbing and pressure washing I did I couldn't get it off.

Thankfully everyone's favourite miracle product came to the rescue. Spray on the WD and let it soak for a minute or two, give it a wipe with the shammy glove, and then pressure it off and soap wash like normal.

Wow, what a can...opps... two buckets of worms I have opened. LOL

    We all have our ways.

I just thought that after foaming, dirt and grim would(for the most part)rinse off and then you had a fairly clean surface to hand wash. That is what I get for watching tooooo much YouTube..

    Thanks for the comments

Let me get this strait. Pressure wash, the go strait to clay? Not on my paint. And he shouldn't either.
    Should be.
    • Pressure wash to knock off as much crap as possible
    • Foam and let it dwell to lift as much grime as possible, rinse.
    • 2 bucket wash with a good microfiber mitt and quality PH neutral car wash.
    • Pressure rinse.
    • Then go to clay if needed. Probably have to do a light paint correction after the clay
    • If the clay is not needed not...
    • Blow dry if possible. Gets 90% off the water off. Electric leaf blower (The Worx) worx well. (pun intended)
    • Final dry with micro fiber towel. Use a quality spray way. (Meguiar's X-Press) while drying as an added lubricant while adding a coat of wax.

Yes to all of that minus the spray wax to dry. Not really needed.

    True, it's not needed.
But watch this video. It might change you mind. And for the basically 5-10 minutes extra it take to do the truck. Why not add a coat of wax?
Use the brand of your choice. I use this because it is soo damn good. And I can by it by the gallon.

Oh, I def understand it has its place but for me its not when drying. I would rather just wax the whole thing.

Would a ceramic coating get rid of waxing?

You don't have to wax over ceramic but it is an extra layer you can add if you want to prevent even more

There are a lot of opinions on here. I feel left out so I'll give you mine :) If you have a pressure washer START with that to remove any loose dirt and grime. Letting it soak with foam is also important. After that, use the two bucket method with a high quality car wash soap with lots of lubricity. I prefer Adams products. GENTLY guide a microfiber wash mitt over the paint while adding just enough pressure to keep it in place. Truth be told, vehicle clear coats scratch very easily even using the best methods and will more than likely need to be polished over time anyway.
