I am interested in adding modifications to my 2018 Tacoma Double Cab SR L4.

I would like to purchase all the parts and install them myself, I have no experience doing anything like this but would like to tackle this as my first real independent project. Can anyone give me some starting tips or good info to use down the road?

Here's a list of additions I would like to add to my Tacoma:
    Side Step
    Mud Flaps
    Roof Racks
    Bug deflectors/hood visor
    Grill Cage
    Skid Plate
    Better tires and rims
LED Lights in headlights and in the cab
    Air Filter
Any other way I can try to increase HP and better my fuel efficiency at the same time

I'm looking to keep my truck on the road, especially since its only an L4. I want to increase performance and make it look like it could handle more than it actually can.

Not sure how I could be helped but like I said, a few pointers would be great.

    Thanks!

:D long day, I was just listing mods

If you plan on Wheeling I say tires first. And then some kind of communication device in case you get stuck and have no reception. Or a nav system. I personally did tires then lift... I should have done armor then lift.

Oh and for more HP get a supercharger. There's some in the for sale threads, just search in the top right corner.

So you mean this is the reverse order of this is how I should place the modifications on the truck?

skip these and get sliders instead

also check out the OV tune for 3rd gens. I've heard it really helps with the truck's drivability

There's no right or wrong way. People like to put armor before lift. Thats the order most TW members follow. For level lift reasons

What @rjbiii said, side steps are not the best for wheeling.

You can't supercharge 3rd gens yet? Didn't even know that this was in a 3rd gen forum. My bad for the wrong information :(

Welcome, sit down, write up a plan for everything you want to do, place cost next to each. Watch for deals, group buys and stuff for sale here. You can save slot of money that way, and most important. Research and ask questions. Take your time, trust me. Here is my truck, following the example above. I am 100% satisfied with what I have done so far. I spent a year just researching before I bought the front bumper. Good luck.

I was gonna say look at the builds section to see what other people have done. There are really a handle of modifications most people have or want to do. And a dozen brands to choose from. Congrats on new taco. Open an excel page and start listing with prices next to them. Then realize how pricey it is. Then cry a little.

But in reality get some tools. You can’t do anything without tools.

If your planning a lift and bigger tires you can throw two of your objectives out the window, fuel economy and performance. Big tires and a lift effect the 4cyl Taco in a big way.

My fiancee is 5 feet tall, I don't plan on lifting the truck so the only lift modification I want to put on it is a leveling kit. I also don't need large wheels, I plan on staying on the road with her. Do you have any suggestions for good side steps?

I put on the i-boards that are available on eBay and Amazon. I got the 4' board for my 18 and it was half the cost of the dealer boards.

    I did

Window Tint -> Brotato Pro Grille -> Tweeters -> Gashole. I'll get TRD Pro wheels when I need new tires, or next summer....

    You need three things:
    1. Tools. Start buying some metric tools.
    2. A Buddy. Find a guy who likes this stuff and befriend him. But, you will need
    3. Beer. Lots of beer. I measure all my projects in beer. "That's a two beer job" or "Shit, that's easily a 24 beer job."

When you combine the first two, the third is a given. Good luck and have fun lol. Start with simple stuff first.
