yep. my go-to shop wouldn't touch it either for the same reason. i ended up just ordering a color matched '11 grille from toyotapartsbarn for whatever it was, 160-170 bucks or something, and selling the factory '11 chrome grille for 115. so all in all it cost me about 50 bucks to have a new color matched grille.

I remember there was once an Ebay store who sold color matched grills with installed black billet inserts.

Does anyone remember the name or have a link?

I ordered color matched paint from Automotive Touchup. I got the paint, plastic adhesion promoter, primer, clear coat, and rubbing cream. My grill surround looks factory painted.

Total cost about $45 I think.

So I just purchased an X metal grille with the chrome surround for $100 which seems like a decent deal. I'm thinking about painting the grille surround color matched or black since I'm putting on a SOS black front bumper. In your folks opinion, should I just sand it down or my buddy has a sand blaster? Is that overkill, I don't want to kill the plastic?

I was a sand blaster for 3 years and it's all about the media you use. Yes it's an over kill for plastic but it can work if you do it right. So just go with sand paper I did mine with 320-600- primer-1200-primer-2000-color-2500-color-3000-clear clear clear haha it's came out factory. But I know theirs a lot of other ways to. So just see what some other guys did to
