I have my German Shepard Lab mix on a wireless collar system. It was only $180 and it works great, batteries last about a month or 2 but he can run around my whole yard freely but cant get out of it.

Also, look into training classes. In my area there are some organizations that are very reasonably priced (skip the pet smart/petco stuff). You can take classes for agility training, scent training, etc. it's great mental stimulation and that tires them out as much as physical excercise. Plus it's good bonding, socialization got the dogs, and you you'll learn good habits, too. Our dog LOVED going to classes -- it was like her night out on the town.

I had 4 or 5 huskies growing up. You need to walk/jog with that dog to satisfy its instinct to run. And on cold mornings its best to not leave their side when you let them out as they love to run in the cold and will dig out. We had chainlink and it got to the point where whenever they dug out we would fill the hole with poured cement. That plastic fence is a joke for keeping stuff in or out.

We also used cattle grade electric fence as they got smart and would share the load of electricity while one dog would dig the hole

Being in florida it was the colder 6 months of the year they would dig out one time we got a call and they were 25 miles away . Occasionally when they got older they would run back on their own and wait outside garage door for us

Thankfully she just runs across the street to the park haha. There was this incident when she got out she went missing for over a week. I put signs all around town and hit up social media and pounds looking for the damn dog. My buddy was walking his dog and noticed 2 huskies at this house when he remembered they only had 1. He called me up and gave me the address and sure enough I pulled up and called her name and she started weeping and howling for me. The lady didn't want to hand her over until I threatened to call the police on her. She was some ghetto slob trying to breed my dog with her male husky. I told her my dog is spayed and micro chipped nice try.

I know I'm gonna catch flack for this, but a horse shocker wire around the base of the fence. Or you could make a fully enclosed (4 walls, "roof", and floor all tied together) dog run with the bottom of the run buried beneath dirt. That'll secure the dog while you are not out supervising.

Here's some pictures of the fence she's eaten up so far I put my lawn mower in place so the little dog doesn't get out. The view from looking through the fence and park itself. The gazebo that you can rent for parties is right across the street so that doesn't help. Other than that my fish Sylvester does fine. No complaints with him he's a good boy. :p

I have 2 huskys also and they are escape artists by nature. My female can flat foot jump a 5 foot field fence no problem. We went through exactly the same thing you are. The electric fence was the cheapest solution for a 1.5 acre fenced yard.
Unfortunately, now she knows she can get out that way. The only solution is a deterrent. If your Leary of a wire fence due to smaller animals then maybe an Electric Training Collar would be better.
The separation anxiety in these dogs is extremely high.

    What about exercise?

Attending is a human thing. Exercise is a dog thing.

Think about the breed of dog you have. What was it bred for? Husky weren't bred to sit in the house and be pet.

Your dog seems to be missing exercise and adventure perhaps.

Real chain link and bury the bottom 20" or so. You can bolt it to the existing fence. Doesn't have to go full height, just out of chewing range. Might have to get creative to ensure the top of the chain link doesn't create a shelf she can climb.

The many comments on spending more time walking and training are spot on. I'd also spend some time working on heeling and recall commands.

If you've got a runner / high energy dog and don't have time for ten miles walks everyday, try training her to follow you on a bike. You both get some exercise, the speed will tire her out better, and a 20 min ride is easy to squeeze in. That, and trail dogs a just plain awesome.

    listen...
you have a working/running dog, and i read Nowhere how many times you walk him Everyday Everyday.. wtf..

90% thats right 90% of behavoir probs will be fixed by regular walks..
    all probs..even unrelated probs..
not her chasing around the yard etc..

i have giant schnauzer, and golden doodle...
    both fully energized i promise..

i trained both them to 'heal' together alongside while i ride my bike..
they are fully drained after each ride..just nice easy non-running pace..
we take 1-2 ice water drink breaks for two minutes or so.
this only takes 20-30 minutes or so..dont push it...
but, in winter they wanna go forever..

if you run any dog for long, youre asking/begging for torn acl.
about 4000$ for each side and 12 weeks rehab..

my dogs highly trained. they even ride skateboards, play 3 shell game etc..
they do their business in certain area of yard etc
they have zero behavoir probs, including run fence, digging etc...
    they dont molest wild life...

goods dogs are created not born...but they need alot of work but soo worth it

please just start walking, Then ask bout probs

jumping is hard on their acl (called ccl in dogs)..

she begs you to help her out getting in truck..
she is perfect..she puts her front half up and asks you to pickup her back half..this is great..

please help her when she asks..

    torn acl is huge deal.
if any dog limps from back leg, holds up leg..
Anything concerning leg/knee prob,,rush to vet...
you are looking at an injured ACL ... ALWAYS.
under certain absolutely limiting conditions, dog could do passive therapy..
but dont rely on that too hard ...
still takes 12 weeks to do that..

This is exactly it. A bored dog with lots of energy who can SEE children playing across the street cannot be expected to lie down happily and wait for its owner to come home.

My Rottweiler needs more exercise than I give her. She occasionally chews stuff. That is MY fault. Not hers. When she sees me pick up her leash she gets extremely excited. She loves going for walks. And when I do walk her she is much more pleasant in the house.

If I can't walk her I at least play fetch with her in the backyard for 20 minutes or so.

Dogs need to expend energy. Moving and "hunting" their territory gives them satisfaction.

I don't know how humane it's considered to be, but my uncle installed one of those invisible electric fences that gives them a little jolt (nothing bad, he even tricked my cousin (his son) into running over it once) if they try and cross the fence line...his german shepherds learned right quick where the edge of the property line was. He lives out in the boonies in the midwest though with a lot of property and space between neighbors. Not sure how practical that would be for this situation but I'd try some of the anti-chew spray someone mentioned earlier and see if that helps.

On another note, are people really demanding that you give them reward money to get your dog back??? That's f***ed up. I would never expect nor anticipate a reward for returning someone's pet. If it's offered and insisted by the owner, that's another thing. But people are a-holes to be demanding that.
