    this is America.

If you see a person with a built-out car, a ford raptor, or M4, there is a 60%+ chance that this person is drowning in consumer debt.

Y'all ought to stop with the "tons of debt" nonsense. While that may be true for some, it's not true of all of us, and some of us do mod our vehicles to use them. My wife and I have three project vehicles, and every part on each one is paid for. Of the three, we only make payments on my wife's Tacoma, which won't be the case for much longer.

Throwing out the CC debt excuse just makes y'all look petty.

Seriously, I only use a CC for the SkyMiles. I pay off my CC every month.

This. I pay it all on my credit card but pay it off completely every month. Between my salary and the wife's salary, it isn't the end of the world to throw money at the truck or the race car at the end of the month. Some months have less money for toys because of trips or unexpected expenditures, but in general we have more than enough to toss some money aside for car related purchases.

And for fraud protection. We generally carry a balance month-to-month of about 5% of our total credit line, mainly because it helps our credit scores.

Maybe the better thread idea would be asking how people budget or asking what people actually do for a living?

I just save up or use my cc and then pay it off. It's good for credit and you still get the parts you want lol. Some people just go overboard with it. A little self control goes a long way for finances.

Just save for what you wanna do. Most of my extra cash goes into my children, house projects and dirtbike parts. Sometimes not in that order.

    Too much.
I can honestly say I'm a really lucky guy. We own our house, we own our get away property and the only car note we have is for my Taco, which I financed for 3 years, and am ahead on by 4 months. I pay our credit cards off each month. We have 2 kids (one in public high school, one in private, their choice not ours). I don't think I make as much as other people in my field with the level of education I have, but I am good with my finances, and keep a good comfortable cushion for emergencies, and have a "hobby" account that I funnel money into after funding the e-fund and paying the monthlies. I watch my debits and credits like a hawk every day. We also have separate accounts, and designated expenditures my wife and I are responsible for, that in the end, is pretty equal.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do to this truck based on what I use it for (camping, but not overlanding, hauling yard trash now and then, maybe some light wheeling), and don't need the ridiculous suspension lift. I did however need better sound, and that was the first major mod I tackled.

I took a long road to get where I am able to keep my family in a great comfort zone while still being able to fund misc. hobbies (cigars, beer brewing, RC cars, firearms, etc). There were some very lean times before I smartened up and found a good woman to keep me on the straight and narrow with my "purse" if you will.

Sorry don't have credit cards. I get my mods paid for by doing mods for others on weekends. Most of my mods so far is homemade. First mod I purchased is a mole panel. Rest are built or someone else was throwing it away. My parents always said if you can't pay CASH you don't need it. But also like reading Dave Ramsey books.

Totally disagree with the mindset of only paying cash. If you pay off your credit cards, there is no issue whatsoever. The amount of points I get from spending on my credit cards is fairly significant and my credit score is fantastic as well.

I wish I could mod my truck more. Just put in an $18,000 deck and probably need to dump another $3-4K on our houses roof.

I did order an RCI front skid plate though, but that's a pretty small mod.
