Yeah, I have one as well. I thought I saw that the 3rd gen sr access could be had with 4cyl manual.

For a 4cyl truck I think it has plenty of power.Slower going uphill when you oversize the tires but still plenty.

Not sure where you live but if it's not right in a big city, your son would love a 4x4. My very first vehicle I bought with my own money was a 4wheel drive.

I believe for the 4cyl the only configuration with MT is access cab 4x4. For 3rd gen at least

Make sure to tell him to allow plenty of time to for passing or pulling out on the highway. Coming from a V6 it took a couple close calls to get it through my thick skull.

Get him a 4cyl with a manual. That's what I had in high school.

1-It's not super fast so he shouldn't be racing it. 2-manuals are fun. 3-I feel learning a manual makes you a better driver. 4-manuals are fun. 5-can't be texting and driving/eating/talking on the phone/drinking/etc when you gots to shift the beast. 6-manuals are fun.

2nd gen I had was 2.7 4 cyl. with auto, my 3rd gen is 2.7 4 cyl with auto, seems the ones with the most problems have the new 6 cyl. At least is what am getting from reading the forums here, Love my 4 cyl.

How does the 4-cylinder run? It doesn't run, it moseys but it'll mosey for 300k without issue.
