With a load, sure. That's where those horses come in. So I've noticed. In real life. But as I've found, it's not the case with empty trucks, one auto, one manual.

Also... third gen auto isn't sucking the paint off of anything. Ever.

    FWIW I went from a 3.4 3rd gen T4R to a 2.7 2nd gen taco and didn't notice a difference. Both 5spd. I like the 2.7 and for buying it used was like 5k less than a v6.

Still. Not necessarily. Are you reading HP specs on the website and assuming more HP always mean you can go faster? That's not always how it works. You have to consider trans and how it dictates what gear you're in, and my gear ratio plus my ability to manually control what gear IM in and at what RPM's. There are plenty of occasions where your truck could possibly flex its 100 more hp, even though my 4 cyls are a mm larger and have something like 11mm longer stroke than yours if I remember right. But not ALL of the occasions my friend.

    6 cyl auto that is.
6 cyl 6-MT is the BEST configuration for the third gen Taco.

Only if you're towing heavy loads frequently.

No towing or occasional light towing I'd take the 4 over the 6 every day of the week. And dollar for dollar the 4 cyl destroys the 6 cyl in off road/4WD applications.

sensibility wins. this is the smart plan for those reasons stated. a slower MT will make you a better driver and keep your hands off the phone. i will buy a slow manual car for my 5yr old when she gets there and she will hate me for it. and I'll sleep better at night.

Torque is what gets you there faster. HP is how fast it goes.

It's a turd when it comes to hills trying to keep pace in the fast lane. I had a 09 2.7 for 367k miles. It always got me home. I have a lot of trust in the 2.7. I'm not to worried about flying around in a Tacoma anyway.

Sure. It has 2 less cylinders than a 6 cylinder with an A/T.

....and anyone who wants a proven, reliable engine without the added weight, expense and complexity of the v6. All tacos have the same GVWR, so if you don't tow much the I4 actually gives you a GREATER payload capacity.
