You can get it in 3rd Gens but they're super hard to find. That's originally what I was looking for and the dealership would have had to transfer one in from any of a few dealers more than 100 miles out. I just went with the V6 SR5 instead.

I just changed the tires. Found some fairly new take offs on Craigslist.

I have a 17 SR 4x4 2.7 auto with utility package. I bought it to use a small snow plow. It's stock except for a set of Hankook all terrain tires for plowing. I only have 1200 miles on it so far and at first I thought it was quite underpowered. But I have to say, it's starting to loosen up and in urban and small road traffic it's getting to be rather fun to drive. It seems to be adapting to my style of driving and feels responsive to my input. It’s top end speed will never be much. I doubt my truck will hit 100+ mph on a flat road but for tooling around town, I am quite satisfied.

Oh I think the 2.7 can "do the ton" rather readily, you just would have to bury your foot- aerodynamics be damned we're hitting 100!
It would be alarming to be sure, not recommended. The power is there though. Most likely screaming along at 4700 RPM in 4th.

But to your point about it loosening up- I really do believe these trucks have some sort of ECU map for "break-in" because the power levels do seem a lot more ample with 13,000 miles on the clock.

I went from a 2002 sr5 trd auto 3.4 to 2017 2.7 auto. the cab feels much roomier (4x4 knob not hitting my leg )and after few thousand miles I don't remember if the 3.4 was faster or not. NOT thinking about the frame is a blessing!!

    Love the 4 banger.

May be the placebo effect, but my 2.7L seems peppier with TRAC off.

I would like a slightly louder exhaust than the Prius model on there now.

I received a letter from Toyota talking about the frame perforation coverage through the 2017 model year.

I just bought a 2020 4cyl tacoma, I really love it. Your not going to beat anyone off the line. Not the fastest on take offs, but youll learn its limitations. My buddy's V6 gets 20 mph per gallon, I'm getting 26 -27 all day long. I pull some small hills going to work. No issues once your up to speed. On the highway I can roll at 70mph no issues. If you get slowed down it could take a few to get back up to speed. Over all I love this vehicle, I had a 2019 Colorado, nothing but issues. Love my taco! Oh dealer price was 26,000.

100%. wrong. I've been looking for a used 4 cylinder Tacoma for about 3 years and when I could find one it cost the same as New unless it had over 50,000 miles then it was a thousand or two less. They always sell quickly. I've been following 4 cylinder pricing since I bought my 1st one in 2005. The market is strong for cheaper versions of the Tacoma, Some just use it as a Truck and don't want to spend the extra money for fancy things. To be fair Pandemic pricing is different and supply is low so values are up. I was thrilled when I found my SR in a color other than White, they are almost impossible to find, especially at the deal I found.

I've been a Manual only guy for many years, but what many of you don't understand is if you live in a large city with dense Traffic you are literally shifting hundreds of times a day to average 21 MPH. Some people want to be able to let others drive their Truck and many can't drive a stick. I switched to Autos since my Job has a horrible commute that involves letting out the clutch in 1st every 10 feet for miles. It got to the point I didn't look forward to driving my 350Z 6 speed on the weekends. Ever since my DD got an Auto my 350z is a real treat when I get the chance to drive it. If I lived out in the Country I would consider a Manual but truck Manuals tend to suck compared to Sports car manuals. Many won't buy a stick or don't want one and an Internet Comment won't change that. I've had Manual Pickup Trucks but never again, there's just no point anymore now that Autos have gear selection and 6 speeds.

Iam pleased with mine too, and agree with what you said, i drive mostly in S mode. The only thing i would add, is if you are going with way bigger tires, a v6 would be a better choice.

I really enjoyed my ‘07 2wd regular cab with the four banger and a 5speed manual. Was pretty peppy and fun to drive. I upgraded to a ‘17 AC 4wd with the 4 banger 5speed manual and noticed that the additional weight definitely effected the pep. Then when I added heavier wheels it became almost no fun to drive especially over the passes or inclines. They are a great motor and pair well with the manual trans but it has its limitations. My current truck (v6 manual) gets nearly the same gas mileage as my ‘17
