    This. ^^^

Also, I'm not surprised that the least accurate method mentioned in the thread is also the person getting unbelievably good mileage.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
from BONE dry to full it will hold just over 21.

It didnt die, but i seriously should have stopped for fuel before that. I wanted to get to 500 but there was not another gas station for another 6 miles..

It is not typical in any way, at all. Its just like i said, the BEST i ever got. And it was also the longest drive in my life. No breaks no anything, spring time so no a/c for the most part and 50-55 mph the WHOLE way.

I really just wanted to see how good i could do get out of it, and planned on going both ways in the same fashion. on the way home i got something like 13 mpg.. didnt even try after about 5 minutes. had my fill on the drive the day before..

I even didnt use cruise on the hilly parts.

also since someone mentioned it, i never used this to check/track for mpg terms, i used this before i had a scan gauge as a running estimate on road trips and such

If i was only getting 150 mile at half tank, and i was expecting 170 i would drive nicer.. make sense?

i tried to start a fuelly when i got the 2013, but my phone force closes the app so i quit. and i had started the log by your mileage thing, so when i missed the tank i didnt want to mess it up or piss with it.

its not getting, it was got, one time, on trip. Hours and hours of crazy driving miss daisey style road trip..

from manhattan kansas uhaul (where i picked up the dolly and got gas), to my parents house in davenport iowa 52802

Download an app, then on the same phone, enter your mpg on the calender on your phone. Ive been doing that for years now on every vehicle I've owned.

Don't know if it is still the case, but it used to be that (in the good old USA at least) all vehicles came from the factory with the speedometer calibrated to be 2-3mph faster than what you were actually traveling. It had something to do with legal issues so if you got pulled over for speeding you couldn't say that your car was saying you were going slower than you actually were or something like that. I'm not sure if that's the real reason, but that's what I read somewhere and it makes sense. Especially because according to my Garmin.. my taco, my sister'a sonata, my old Camry, my girlfriends jeep, and my dads accord are all about 3 mph off.

    Right, sorta..

I think the manufaturers choose to go 3 ish mph "faster" with it. Its safer for them and less of a liability. (even though they have 3 plus or minus basically)

Supreme court ruling says 3mph variance is allowed for vehicle speedometer, and a seperate but related ruling says 2 mph variance is allowed for the radar calibration. (if your being measured by radar)

I am/was Radar certified, (probably expired) and i dont remember the actual names anymore. But basically you have a 5mph plus or minus window from the speed limit.

Its not as sure thing as it sounds, for example

Your speedo reads 43, your doing 46
    cops radar reads 48.
you get pulled over (because someones seriously bored) and think you were doing 43, while the cop is sure you were doing 48.
He is an idiot if he gives you a ticket, because of above said supreme court rulings.. BUT your an ass, and he wants to get you back so he writes the ticket anyway.

You go to court, because 5 mph is within your margin of error and 99% chance it gets thrown out..

Its one of those few laws that are out there to help people who really are not in the wrong..

some people assume, its a 5 mph extra window..
in some ways, it kinda is, but really its not..

radar sets that cops use have a strict cert. and are something like 99.6 percent accurate. and many new cars have verified speedo options.

Further I drove on 1 tank of gas was in my Prius. 506 miles with 10.8 gallons of gas. So about 47mpg without trying.

You did that with almost exact 2x's amount of gas. Impressive for a Taco!

Pour one gallon into the tank. Drive however far it will take you. Call ToyotaCare for fuel delivery(on their dime of course). Voila, mpg reading......................But seriously, a scangauge would be the better thing to do.

I have a scangauge 2. Its nice but there is a group buy on ultragauge going on right now and its much nicer price and even looks a little cooler.

Supposedly the scangauge may need some calibration to be correct depending on vehicle. I verified mine with gps and its basically dead on. Woohoo. Its really nice for towing.

I like this idea. But I need to be empty first. Will they come and pour the gallon?

I bet the prius drive was more pleasant. It was serious like torture. I have enough trouble not speeding let alone literaly babying it along for near 500 miles.

Really I was very impressed with the mpg I was able to get all the time with the auto. Im less impressed with the 6spd for mpg but I love it as my truck! So I pay a few more bucks at the pump.. meh

I bet it was torture! I am certain if I drove the way you had to in the Prius, I would get even better mpg. On that tank, I was still driving 70-80 on the freeway.

    Same here..

That's an impressive average mpg with your Taco. Here's what I use when MPG matters.

I check my MPG with every fill up. I use a app on my phone called "calculator" (aka: the old fashion way). I've had a low of 16 pulling a trailer. And a high of 23 all flat highway. I Avg. 20 everyday driving, about 80% highway.

A side note about running until almost empty. Some manufacturers advise against it. Reason being with the fuel pump in the tank the gas cools the pump. No gas, no cooling. IDK what Toyota's position on this is.

Its for real, i have changed quite a few old yota fuel pumps.. Almost all of the owners either ride the light or the truck sat.. Some just rusted etc.

I have seen import guys lean out at the strip trying to save weight and running to low as well..

Generally speaking when I fill up i still have 2 gallons left in the tank. Its probably bad because i wait, but i try to make it a week. and normaly its the 5 or 6 day mark when the light comes on :)

You get some impressive MPG.. I dont have the patience for that. I track it because im curious.. Accept on longer trips, then i try to save SOME fuel..

I did that on the last truck. Now i use trip a for tanks, and trip b for pretty much nothing, unless im on a trip or driving and want to know how far etc..

My GPS shit the bed, so now i use google maps for navigation on my phone. Works better than garmin anyway. And for MPH and speed warnings etc i use an app on my phone, GPS Speedo i think, gives all the trip info i used to get on the garmin plus a HUD with my speed etc that reflects on the windshield, and the turn by turn nav plays through the radio on bluetooth, with the next exit on the HUD.. pretty cool.

That is when i use it. Here for the last little bit i havent gone anywhere i dont know how to get there so i havent used it.

I have a rand mcnally, spelled wrong for sure. I keep it because i remember reading it when i was a kid with my old man on road trips.. I am pretty sure the GF and half of the people i know couldnt find anything in it.
