I bought an All Pro aluminum plate bumper with a receiver hitch behind the license plate. I haven't installed it yet, but the thought just occurred to me that there's no step. How do people get into the bed when they have a plate bumper. I can fabricate any kind of step, but I don't want something hanging down when not in use. I've seen the OEM steps and I don't like how they hang down when not in use. I've seen the aftermarket steps that go in the receiver hitch, but again, they hang down, and I don't want something that makes the license plate stick out.

My bruteforce bumper has enough of a lip to stand on if I needed to use it as a step to get into the bed but you could either drop the tailgate to climb into the bed or use the tire to climb in from the side.

As for me, I use my rock sliders as a step or sometimes one of the tires will do in a pinch.

Drop the tailgate and get yo knee up there!

I have a cap so the only way I can get in is via a dropped gate. If you have a lift kit it makes life suck.

i'm usually too lazy to drop the tailgate for a quick hop into the bed. That means using the tire as a step. Works good!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm just used to the convenience of stepping on the step bumper and then stepping over the tailgate. After thinking about all the ways I could fabricate a folding or sliding step that stows behind the flip up licence plate holder, a lightbulb lit up in my head. Oh yeah, I've seen fold down license plate steps on the front of vans and motorhomes. That's exactly what I need. I scoured the internet. The company that made them was Fold-A-Way Corp. Well, they quit making them years ago and apparently nobody else makes them.

I usually stand 5 yards back for a running start and do a backflip 1/2 twist summersault over the tailgate and land front facing between the wheel wells. There's been times when I misjudged it, overcompensated , landed and cut my foot on the prinsu rack.

Pole vaulting works well. If you’re not into that, just jack up the front a couple feet and step right in.

Get a commercial truck body folding step and bolt it to the bumper.
