How do you climb into bed when you have plate bumper?

So, the hunt is on. I have decided that the Fold A Way step is the way to go. I looked on ebay and there have only been 3 sold in the last year. One of them was brand new in the box and ended 4 days ago. Just my luck. I wasn't looking for one then. I considered the fold down truck step shown above, but the rear face of the bumper is angled, so that won't work. I figure this folding step has 2 benefits. It folds down for access to the receiver hitch and it provides a convenient way of stepping into the bed. It will require a custom drop hitch, but that's easy. It may take awhile, but I will find one. I'll post pics when I do.

Install the bumper and see if you even need it. My guess is you won't.

Plus, the fold down step over the receiver is going to push the license plate out far enough that the lights won't light it up at night and you'll have a reason to get pulled over.

This should not be at all difficult to fabricate. I'm no expert fabricator, but I have it pretty much all designed in my head. Super easy to have an experienced fab guy do...

IMG_1572.jpg I've looked over the bumper a lot and there's nothing to step on. Even if I could step on that top edge, I don't want to be kicking the tailgate. I would prefer to do all my fab and fitting before I install the bumper. As for the license plate light, I plan to use one of the street rod style lights that mounts to the top of the plate. I considered the adverse effect of having the drop hitch out past the folded down license plate, but I realized that it's not going to be that much different than stock. The OEM receiver is at the rearward edge of the step bumper. The hidden receiver is probably a good 4" farther forward. Like I mentioned, making a custom drop hitch is a piece of cake and this truck will never tow a 5,000 lb camp trailer.

    Thank you!

I read this entire thread to see if I was the only one who found humor in the thread title.

LOL, that's funny. I almost made steps for the custom 4 post bed I made which has perfect height for me.

You know, that would be perfect to get to the correct height! Might be a market for these, make it to slide under the bed.

Ya but it has to be wide enough also to accommodate the stance and ensure safety of the user.

I’ve used similar steps like these as swim steps on boats to pull myself back in the boat... they work

I usually jump out of my sunroof into a tree while doing about 60mph. Then I wait for my truck to circle the earth and when it comes back under the tree I stand on a limb and do a backflip into the bed of my truck.
