How do you feel about a Catback Exhaust?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy the catback exhaust by MBRP. Looking to see what your thoughts are if you own one. Is it too loud and are there any benefits to having one vs stock?

 

On a v6? Why? If you want a good sounding exhaust get a v8 or a Harley

I have the TRD cat back exhaust with the TRD air intake as well because it just happened to come with the truck when I got it. The only time I really hear it is during a cold start or when accelerating. Otherwise it really isn't that noticeable to me. I actually done mind the sound too much, but I think from reading previous posts on this forum it seems most people on here do not like it. True that you will never get the sound of a V8 from a V6 truck, but it's all personal preference on whether you like it and I actually don't mind it. From what I've heard the MBRP produces a louder sound so if that's what you're after you might look into going that route.

 

I'm not looking for anything loud, more of a rougher sound. My main concern is if it's loud and annoying. I was also curious to see if it help out with performance. I'm happy with the stock setup and I can spend that money on something else.

 

The consensus I have seen on the forums is that the TRD exhaust is the best sounding

If you want a descent sound try the TRD Pro cat back and CAI, these two OEM mods coupled together make such a difference on WOT.

Heard a lot of good reviews of the MBRP catback exhaust. More aggressive and sporty than many of the other aftermarket brands without annoying drone.

I have the 3" SS MBRP catless exhaust mated to the URD Y pipe (which deletes the first set of stock cats). Although my exhaust has a nice tone with nasty burbles & burbs when downshifting it is a tad too aggressive for my truck, especially during WOT or heavy load. The Y pipe significantly makes the MBRP exhaust louder & more free flowing. In fact, I just welded a 12" resonator just before the muffler which helps make the exhaust a bit more civilized. I personally think that the MBRP catback exhaust by itself sounds great.

TRD or Borla. They are virtually identical, and I believe that Borla actually makes the TRD. The Borla is a 2 piece setup, but I'm not sure about the TRD.

 

I had 2 V6 Dakotas I had a muffler shop put a Flow Master single inlet/dual outlet muffler on, and ran dual pipes out the back. Both actually sounded really good, had a nice little rumble to them.

Had a Flow Master single pipe put on my 4.0 straight 6 Jeep, and it sounded like shit.

 

I like my borla, sounds good when on the gas, but not like it's trying to force the v6 to sound like a v8.
I saw maybe a .5-1 mpg gain the next tank I had it on, but probably because I was trying to see if there was an mpg gain i subconsciously drove it accordingly.
Personally I wouldn't have paid full price, but got it used off a member here.

 

The TRD Pro catback is one piece and takes about half hour to install.

Had the mbrp on for a month or so, that's as long as I could take the awful noise. Switched it out for the trd cat back and it's exactly as much noise as I'd like.

 

Had the trd exhaust on my first gen. I’d describe it as the perfect line between not being able to tell if it’s even aftermarket or not.

Have the manga flow on my 3rd gen and it’s on the loud side, I like it but then again I’ve put exhausts on 10+ cars
I’ve owned I just like exhausts.

From what you described it sounds like the TRD would suit you best.

 

I've got the MBRP, but I have the dual exhaust. I've had it since May. It's good for me. I need to make a video because the truck sounds good with it and last I checked no one has posted anything on it. I just bought it and took a chance and I'm happy. It's loud though. Not for grandpas.

 

Great info. I'm leaning towards the TRD catback. Now I just have to find a good deal on one.
