I kind of like the painted door frames on the Gen 2. I always worry about the black fading. Now the plastic bits can easily be reconditioned with Wipe New (IT works GREAT) But flat black painted surfaces are a tad tougher to keep fresh.

This stuff worked great on my faded plastic window shutters and a neighbor's old Caliber which has a lot of tupperware. Beats Back to Black hands down.

The Armor-All Trim Restorer works real well. Much better than Back to Black.

If it's anything like the painted pillars on my old Corolla, they'll wax up and keep just fine.

They are painted underneat the blackout tape, which is just a satin black vinyl. If you want it to just be painted, peel it off. :)

Are we talking about the black in between the two windows, on the doors?

This may be a dumb question but it's cleared under there right? In don't want to be shocked if I peel it off. Haha

    Not dumb.

Those areas are masked off prior to the whole vehicle paint job so that no clear is wasted. It takes about an hour to mask those areas but it saves about $3.

Hmm I think I'll leave it on then. Mine is black so I probably won't even notice it.

I hated the dealers in Austin. I always went to Jeff Hunter Toyota in Waco. Had a standing deal with them, $500 over invoice (or better in some cases). Sent other folks there as well and they were pleased, got referral fees that I didn't even expect.

    I was kidding. :anonymous:

The tape is applied after paint (of course) so there is definitely clear coat applied under the tape.

If your truck is black (or you don't care anyway) I would leave the tape. If nothing else, it is a little bit of extra scuff protection. In 10 years if it is a little worse for wear, you could take it off and have nice clean paint underneath.

I wouldn't buy any product for the tape to look clean, either. Hit it with soap and water and dry it off.

Interesting....I will probably pull off the tape and polish the paint underneath. I prefer the painted surfaces.

Hard to believe Toyota just puts tape there for aesthetic reasons...

It's there to make the window look bigger or to keep hands off of the paint. I don't know which
