OP has a double cab by virtue of having BSM. Access cabs carry over the 3rd brake light design from 2nd gens and don't have the leakage issue.

Once it stops raining I'm burning my tacoma before any issues start. I'll ride a bicycle

That’s a nice resource, but there’s a basic owner misunderstanding about recalls versus TSBs, and it keeps popping up in threads over and over.

If it’s only a measly $70, why does the dealer want $900 to fix it? And it’s soo easy to fix, the labor time should be minimal. No pitchforks here, just saying that there’s a huge disconnect.
And the “no one I know” is bunk. Your entire world doesn’t encompass everyone else’s world. It’s like saying “no one I know has free healthcare, therefore it doesn’t exist.” Maybe you need to get out more often?

An option on this model, standard safety feature on others. And you paid a premium for it. You should have a reasonable expectation that it lasts for more than two years. If not, then it needs to be re-engineered.

Sounds like the 3rd gen is a step backwards in this regard.

3rd brake light design is beyond stupid. Take down headliner to access light bulb . Who designed that ? When mine goes out I'm not paying $900 for a bulb

    It's not.

You should go to the NTSB and research what constitutes a recall and why many things are not recall worthy.

A local dealer texted my yesterday to let me know I hadn’t had my 2017 checked for the third brake light recall. They called it “Center High-mounted stop lamp water leak.”

I scheduled an appointment and they are working on it now. Supposed to be doing an “inspection” of the issue first and say it takes 4 hours for that. Here’s to hoping they actually fix it.

Ah, no. I shattered my with a nose of my canoe, long story but it was fucked...

~$300 for the local dealer to do it and I thought that was steep. Overall, you need a new dealer casue they have you tagged as a sucker, $900
