How do you guys secure your Yeti coolers, in the bed of your Taco's?

Going to be sure to secure this bad boy in the truck!

but to help with the dump water vs. leave water.. here's what Coleman's and Igloo suggests..

Glad i stumbled onto this.. I like the idea of the chain locking it in the bed!

 

Well Im a little late to the party but I thought Id weigh in. I was very interested in a k2 but got a pretty good deal on a yeti roadie, and figured why not at that price, between working outdoors in south GA summers and it being a good size for the john boat when we go duck hunting/fishing/booze cruisin, might as well. And being in a college town, that yeti HAS to be locked up.

The main difference I did from the other guys that used chains was went and bought an L shaped peice of iron from Lowe's, probably 2 inches on either length, and took an angle grinder to it to mimic Yeti's little bracket they sell with the python cable lock. The only larger advantage to that is you can still access the cooler with it still being locked to the truck. I also bought a 2 ft section of galv. chain in the biggest links they had and two master locks. Its served its purpose so far.

I can post pictures if anybody would like them, but its pretty easy to do.

 

Did you bolt the L bracket through one of the lock holes?

 

no the L bracket goes through the slit made for yetis lock bracket. Its probably an 1" or 1.5" wide and is on the outer edge of the rim when you open the lid. that way you can still open it when locked to the truck

 

I got an idea of what you are talking about but pics are welcome. I have a 65 I'd like to put in the back of my Truck. Looking at buying a rodie or 35 later on down the road

 

it should work for any size cooler. I bought an extra bracket, so you can see what the full size thing looks like before I grinded it down. I just went and took a few pictures so bear with me a minute, its always a struggle to remember how to upload pictures.

Thanks for the pics. I'm curious if a slightly longer one be more secure. Bent as such that you can lock both tabs. Could someone pry the metal straight enough to remove it?

 

The problem with all of these systems, is if anyone really wants it, they can have it. Most of the time being as simple as having a pair of bolt cutters. My buddies and I tried pulling/pushing/jiggling/etc on it pretty hard to see if you could straighten it out or pull it downwards through the hole, but were unsuccesful. The other thing you could try is to leave another inch or so of length on top of the L bracket and bend it downwards over the lip. I still bring mine inside most nights, or at least put it in the cab.

I have a smaller cable lock that I put to one of the tie downs in the back. I only have the cooler in the truck when I am using it, not all the time like a lot of guys.

 

No lie there. I gave my Yeti away after buying a Pelican. The Yeti was flat out garbage other than it's tough. If you have ever only owned cheap coolers the Yeti seems amazing. Compared to other high end coolers its junk.

 

Couldnt of said it better my self. Dont get me wrong yetimakes a badass koosie that i never leave home without that's about it

 

I have the Roadie20 so she sits in the back seat.

 

Tonneau cover and tailgate lock to keep the 60 qt Grizzly out of the view of sticky fingers. Just fits under the tonneau perfectly.
