How do you heat your house?

nah it can get a bit cold here, but nothing too bad to complain about. but ive experienced some good cold so dont hate too much, spent a couple years out in CO and one hellish one in NJ, some time in virginia, and NC,

 

True! their is no insulation in the walls, most houses here dont have either

Well i dont technically live IN hilo i just live on the Hilo side of the bigisland, the elevation here is about 1600 feet

 

Ahhh, I see. I used to be like that before moving up mauka, average temp in my old house was 80-92 degrees. takes awhile to get used to em

we have some portable electric heaters for the just-in-case kind of nights. lowest its gotten at my house was 38 degrees. That was a titty bit nipply.

looking for a permanent kind of thing or something just for the cold nights?

See now 38....... that is WAY to cold, yeah im looking for something to install but something to be used only when it gets cold and you just want a little warmth just to be comfortable once in a while

 

i use my heater as a last resort. u can generally find me wearing my goose-down jacket inside my home when its cold.

 

Would just be night time and early morning use, cause day time its hot

 

Get an electric fireplace .

 

I used a blackand decker room heater that was about the size of a toaster for my old room. worked pretty well...

We built a fireplace on our lanai and used leftover coffeewood for fuel.

 

Which is more efficient , electric or propane?

 

I bet that fire place out side and da lanai still heats the house inside eh?

 

Depends on the cost of your utilities . Plus you don't need to vent an electric one

 

I seen a propane one that is ventless, those any good?

I was looking at this one http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200395468_200395468 keep in mind to that its not cold here in the day time and only once in a while we would use it for nights and early mornings

 

I can't figure out how carbon monoxide is not an issue with those ventless units .

I see it's not for sale in Canada , probably doesn't meet our codes

 

Yeah i have no idea, this is all new to me anyways
