How do you install this spark plug coil?? Super tight wire in the way.

Hey bros and gals. I've been messing with trying to install this coil (middle coil drivers side) for like 30 minutes. This damn wire is in the way and I've tried working around it and tried pulling it every direction and rotating the coil every which way. The wire is extremely tight and I've pulled in it to where I'm not comfortable pulling any harder. Getting the old one out was not this difficult. And the wire was over the original coil when I removed it. The damn wire harness is mounted to the engine. I already unplugged it and the piece doesn't move. It might just be a plastic clip but I don't want to pull on it. Why is this wire so tight?

I've watched about 4 videos on the process and not a single video has mentioned having trouble with this wire.

It's also not even mentioned in the RIPP coil installation document they sent.

Can you turn/spin the coil and “slide” the wire over top?

Or does it even go under it?
It looks like when you bolt it down. The plug will be “over the wire”?

Are you sure the wire was underneath?

The wire was over the original coil. And I've tried to spin the coil under the wire there's just absolutely no slack.

Why not unhook that grey harness strap and just slide the harness over more? Looks like that thing is still connected.

Maybe I'm missing something here but can't you just unplug the wire then position the coilpack in place bolt it down then run the cable back over and plug back in?

Remove the harness in question from it's mounted location, install coil, reinstall harness. It's seems pretty straightforward unless I'm missing something

The gray harness is attached to engine. I already unplugged the cable that plugs into it. I've been fiddling with that gray clip for an hour and can't see how to unclip it or even if it can be unclipped.

I can barely reach the item you circled but it feels like a zip tie.

The gray harness is attached to the engine and I can't figure out if it's removable. I already unplugged the wire that was going into it.

Your coil doesn't appear to be clocked correctly.
ETA: Nevermind. It appears you don't have it bolted down yet. The wire and plug length is too short for the new coil.
ETA2: Grey plug goes over the coil; does that help things?

I went ahead and installed it like this. I realize the cable is supposed to go over the coil but there was literally no play in the wire. And I couldn't figure out how to detach the gray harness from where it is seemingly permanently clipped onto the engine.

I hope having it installed the way I do will not damage anything. It does have a slight bit of tension on the wire but not a great deal. Thought about just doing this temporarily and taking it to a shop and asking them what they think about how I have it and if they think it will be fine or if they recommend it gets moved over the coil. All the videos I watched didn't mention this. The rest of the process was incredibly easy and straight forward. This was the only part that nobody mentioned and I struggled with it for an hour before deciding to just do it how I have it.

Awesome I actually watched this particular video many months ago and you just now brought it back to my attention. Thanks! At around the 14 minute mark they talk about the issue I was having. I will definitely try and get that clip out when I have the time. The gray piece looked like it would come off of the black piece, the actual "clip" that they referred to. But apparently the black piece comes out too. Thanks for finding that!

Did you notice any difference in throttle response, or better MPGs after installing these?

Not to sound like an a—. But didn’t it get unplugged from there? My order of work is always take a picture or so as you disassemble anything. My memory isn’t as sharp as I think it is

My take is he was able to fangle the old coil out without removing the grey clip from the cover. Since the new coil is bigger in dimension where it accepts the connector, he was not able to get the new coil under the grey clips wire harness.

Lol @ the mpgs I just installed them today. I'm not expecting much gain in mpgs but it could happen. I drive mostly city - stop and go. Throttle response is great and lots of power but I also got the KDMAX tune a few weeks ago so it's hard to tell since I'm still getting used to the tune. The tune + the coil packs is probably the way to go.
