I hear lot of people having issues with the automatic. I’m very happy with my. It can be a little Ruff in cold weather at first but has been pretty awesome. Cruise control is a different story. I’ve been told to try the ECT button so I’ll
    do that next.

2021 Tacoma DCLB off-road. Drove great got decent mpg, then I added a 2/1 leveling kit and now I'm thinking about getting that tune . It shifts at odd times and drains the mpg now. But before the 2/1 leveling it shifted and drove great!

So all you did was raise it, and did not add bigger tires and things changed in the trans? That does not seem logical.

it's pretty quick to press the button. just do it next time you are at a stop light.

Happy with mine also. But ECT made a huge difference in mine.

Truthfully it doesn't make sense. I already had 265/75r16 tires in it and had no change in mpg, then added the leveling kit and boom mpg change and shifting issues :notsure:. It does shift a little more normal in ECT, but I think I'm still going to do a tune.

you can't. you can only get a tune if you have the 6 cylinder engine from aftermarket tuners if you have a truck built in the last few years.

I have a 2021 Tacoma SR5 I really don't have issues with the trans but it's always nice to see what's out there.

If you put the 4 88 gears in make sure you make everything look stock and the dealer won’t know
And then enjoy the truck. They most likely wouldn’t even notice

I just drove my new TRD OR DCLB 270 miles on interstate and two-lane state highways. It was a mixture of level to hilly ground. This automatic transmission is much, much better than the one that came with my 2018 TRD OR DCLB. The 2018 would downshift going up a hill, rev up to 4,000+ rpm, and then hang on to those low gears for far too long once on level ground.

The new Tacoma is much smoother, there is much less hunting for gears, shifting is crisper, and the tach rarely went over 3,000 rpm going uphill. Most of the driving was 65-75 mph, with cruise control on. I got 19 mpg.

Right now I'm sitting around 16.7 mpg. That's without warm up driving to and from work on the highway at 65-70 mph. I find it definitely odd from when I was getting 18-19 mpg beforehand.

I think these new Tacoma's are not made equally lol. Coming from Montana driving 200+ miles depending on the trip and ranging from 60-80 mph, automatic tranny gets a little wonky in cruise control. Seems like it consistently wants to stay above 2k rpm cruising at 65-70 on flat(ish) ground.

the reason they all feel different is the ECU learning algorithm is very sensitive. even just driving in warmer weather, i can see it pulling timing and adjusting shift points. especially sensitive to octane. any change in octane, and the ecu needs a few tanks to adjust. you can see this for yourself with a scan tool looking at when it's running in open/closed loop, degrees of timing advance, and fuel trim.

I'm very satisfied with the AT. The biggest problems I've had with it are:
    1) Realizing you have to learn a few things about driving it effectively. And
    2) Looking for problems because of everyone else's whining and complaining.

This is the first AT I've owned. Sure, I've driven lots of them. But over the course of 55+ years of MT ownership and experience, I enjoy driving this thing.

I agree with you, I have no issues at all with my AT. Here lots of people just complain about everything under the sun about Taco. I say if your not happy then by another brand.Just saying.

Yeah, I went to the same size and i am getting about the 16.9 on the trucks computer. But i have not recalibrated for the larger tire size, so I actually measured tank and mileade and did the calc manually. I am pushing closer to 17.5. But my driving is mostly city(80%). This could be your issue.
