With the stock radio system. Today I bought a cassette to AUX and it went to static within an hour so gonna have to return it. What method do yall use to go about listening to music from your iphone/phone or mp3 whatever yall use in your taco, with the stock system?

You can modify your stereo and add an aux connector.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cheap-mod-diy-aux-input-in-a-2005-2008-factory-head-unit.161339/

Or you can replace your radio. Decent ones with bluetooth, aux and more power are available pretty cheaply today.
You can go single din or double din (the size of the radio) with an installation kit.

There are plenty of stereo related threads here. have a search.

Spend about $40 on a bluetooth transmitter and be done. No wires betweenyour phone and radio or the transmitter and radio. You'll be able to take it from vehicle to vehicle, sounds as good as an fm station. Spend less on one that plugs into your headphones jack but it won't sound very good. Spend even less on ebay generic and it will sound pretty bad.

Or spend more on a bt head unit, and an hour or 2 doing the swap.

Cassette adapters, id rather listen to wind noise.

I use https://www.usaspec.com/p-327-pa15-toy.aspx. Not cheap, but it works like a champ and also charges my iPhone. I have one of the older ones that has the 30pin iPhone connector . I just added the Apple 30pin to lightning adaptor and it works great with my iphone6s

I replaced the HU with a half way decent Pioneer unit for $90. It has a USB port to connect my iPhone. Plays music, charges the phone and displays artist/album/song info.

Bluetooth distorts audio horribly. Aux/USB port is the way to go.

I think horribly is a bit strong unless there is something wrong with the hardware. Bt isn't lossless but the difference is fairly minor. I doubt to many people get concert hall thx quality sound from their 20 year old tacoma stereo.

I got an aftermarket head unit for around $150, then installed it myself and now I have both an AUX input and Bluetooth. I use the Bluetooth unless I need to charge my phone and then I'll plug it in through the USB AUX input.

    ...we'll get there.

$24 and the time it takes to pull your radio. I got the same thing for my wife's scion...despite the mixed reviews, I have absolutely no complaints. If it doesn't work for some reason, you can return it.

In a sense. @Blackdawg knows the whole stats on audio and whatnot. But having both I can hear a big difference in audio quality.

Is it cassette only or does it also accept CDs? Unless it doesn't matter...maybe someone can comment.

    Blue tooth is horrid.

But i can't stand even Youtube data compression..so i am in the minority.

I'm also guessing you're shooting yourself in the foot from the get go with some crappy MP3 with a low bit rate anyways, so you probably won't see a difference. If you are playing high bit rate files, the difference would be VERY noticeable.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/scosche-btfreq-bluetooth-fm-transmitter-black/5577305.p?skuId=5577305

Search for "blutooth fm" and you'll get options.

I used a jabra cruiser (cruzer maybe) for years, until i would get around to doing the hu. Then it would go back in the closet until i changed vehicles and needed it again. Then my wife used it until last year when it finally died. 20ish on ebay. I bought her one of the best buy ones to replace it and it works well. She listens to audiobooks all the time.

I've had $5k stereos and installed more systems than i can count. Ive also had bone stock toyota. Bt won't sound any worse than an fm station and as far as convenience its hard to beat. If you're like me and steam pandora all the time, you're already using compressed audio.

No matter how pure your signal is you're not going to get much better sound out of 20 year old paper full range speakers being pushed with 5w of factory power
