I have the double cab, and to my ears the mixes are all wacked- there's no midrange and sopme tracks that are prevelant in a two-speaker setup are buried in this one. I'm not too happy about it.
By th eway, it's not the SIZE of the magnet that really matters, it's the STRENGTH of the magnet. GRanted, those magnets look like they'd be hard-pressed to pick up a pin, but still..

I upgraded my HU first, and the sound was a bit clearer. Then I put in aftermarket speakers which made a noticeable difference. Then I added an amplifyer and the difference is AMAZING. The amplifyer is not a must have, but I looked at this way: If you put after market speakers that can put out 150W, but are only getting 50W from the HU, why not let the speakers work they way they were designed to with an amplifyer. And the difference is amazing. The sound quality at low volumes is not too big of a difference but with mid to high volume it is amazing

So in real life I'm a theatre technician and Audio engineer,.
I'd just to explain further what is "wrong" with the stock and MANY aftermarket speakers...

If we look at sound as a visual graph,. laid out like a "graphic" equalizer,. a "perfect" response would be all frequencies,. at the same amplitude...

A visual graph shows it with a perfectly flat amplitude across the screen,. ( we use the term "flat frequency response to describe the perfect sound,. it does not mean "flat" as in bland in this case)

    Perfect response:

    20hz ---------1Khz -----------20Khz

Bass - MidBass - Midrange - Treble - High Treble

Most low end systems can't recreate either the higher frequencies ( the columns closest to the right hand side) or the extreme low frequencies, ( the left hand columns)We've actually grown extremely accustomed to ignoring the highest frequencies in all but the best sound systems,.

....But we all seem to crave some form of bass.
Well you CAN'T get real base with small speakers and tiny magnets,. but you can force these parts to make lots of mid base,.. and cut off the high frequencies,.. two effects that can fool one into hearing "warm and bassy" sound.

And so the technique so often employed is to design these speakers to really punch up the mid base, to "compensate" for the real low frequencies they can not recreate.
This sounds like mud to the trained ear,. add to that the total lack of high frequency and it's a muddy, tubby warm bowl of soupy mush.. no crisp clean highs, and zero punch or feel to the bass.

These speakers response would be far from flat,. we'd totally lose the extreme low and high end and see a big boost in the mod base around 125-500 hz... then a sever drop to the extreme left and right at the low bass, between 20-75 hz,. and at the high frequencies dropping after 5khz...

Lastly, FYI, the stock "Tweeter" is not a tweeter at all as far as any one with any real knowledge of speaker construction is concerned. The "tweeter" is in fact just another (albeit small) paper cone!!!
It's a very very small WOOFER!
Paper cones do NOT come close to reproducing the real high frequencies. If I were to guess,. we drop right off the charts at little more than 5Khz!!!!
