Like the title says how do you remove the center caps from 17" sport wheels?
    Thanks

With the lug nuts off, they should just pop off. There are little plastic clips that hold them in. I believe you can get them off with the lug nuts on, it's just easier when the wheel is off.

No offense, but if you have to ask how to remove a center cap from any wheel, maybe you shouldn't be messing with your truck.

Not really... I've removed my wheels plenty of times and never had to take the center caps out. If you just yank them out, the tabs break and they won't clip back in. Removing parts is usually easy, removing them nicely so they go back together can be tricky with all the cheap plastic tabs and clips they use on vehicles these days.

Have you tried small needle nose pliers that way you can depress the clip and it will come out nice and clean.

Well that's offensive guy is just asking a simple question if he doesn't know then he will learn not sure but I mess with my truck to learn about it and vehicles in general only difference is I own an automotive repair shop and have
Mechanics, any tool I need and a huge discount on every part performance or original.

I'm about to take my caps off to paint them I'll let you know in a few minutes

Small thin flat blade screw driver to pop off center cap.

those center caps can be tricky- if it does not just pop back into place, your bending or breaking tabs... I personally take mine off prior to a tire rotation so the tire monkeys do not damage the caps

I'm not sure about the Tacoma wheels but the FJs have retention rings inside the center caps and it will be a total PITA to take them off without removing those rings. [IMG]

Pinch the spring part of it & the clip comes out pretty easily then the center cap practically falls off.

i still can't figure out how to take mine off. i pried it with the tire iron and used a flat tip screwdriver..they moved a little, but i was afraid to break the plastic by prying too hard...is there a special spot i should be pressing to make it come off? i have taked many tires off before, and feel like a newb with this center cap. I don't want to have to take the tires off to access the caps if anyone was going to suggest that.

I have always had to take the wheels off. With the wheel removed, flip it over and use 3-4 flat tip screw drivers to gently pry the clips back 1 at a time, leaving the screwdrivers in place as I work my way around.
If they were easy to take off we would be complaining about them falling off:rolleyes:

Just took mine off using a flat head. Came off fairly easy for me. Thanks for all the info in this thread.

Now I just gotta wash the wheels and plasti dip them. I ordered those fj trail team black center caps to replace the stock ones.

Don't feel bad, I'm having the same problem with mine....damn things don't want to come off! Maybe I'll just leave them on. I can get the lug nuts off without removing them...

My 2013 tacoma has 2 fastener bolts holding the cap on. Its decieving because there are 4 "dummy" bolts. I figured this out because 2 of the real fastener bolts backed themselves out with normal driving. Now, im in search of the correct replacement fastener bolt.
