Hi first I'm new here so hello everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to remove the fender liner grommets on my Tacoma. They are not like the regular push pins that will release by prying up with a trim tool or screw driver. These grommets have a circular top with a square hole in the middle. They "Clip" in with two clips that cannot be accessed from behind so you could squeeze the two clips then push the grommet thru the hole. The liner appears to be held in place with a combination of screws, push clips and grommets. It's the grommets I'm having trouble with. Anyone?

Front or rear liner? My front liners have the normal plastic rivets I call them pop out the center and then pry on the lip come right out. Guess I have to climb around on my truck to see if I can find some of those other ones. Piece of advice buy the grommets/rivets from Toyota they work best bought a whole box from eBay and they were shit. First time I popped one up it fell apart then another and another. Went to dealer next day bought all 12 they had in stock cost me like $10 but worth it.

Small flathead screwdriver (like the size of the notch itself) right where you see that notch. Get under the fastener at the notch and just pry it up a little bit. They'll pop right out. They're a bit different than you may see in other places on your truck. Don't need to tackle them from the back side to compress the fastener (at least as far as mine went).

    Oh, and welcome aboard :)

Yes and no. I will be changing out my fog lights to Diode Dynamics SS3's soon so I will have to peel back some of the liner. But this is why a need access to the back side of the fender now. I took my truck to the dealer for a full detail and when I got it home there was a small ding on the passenger side fender. I called a dent repair guy and he said he would need access to the back of the dent to gently tap it out (It's smaller than a dime and not very deep and the paint is fine) so that's why I need to remove the liner.

UPDATE: Upon further investigation I discovered that I can get access to the back of the grommets thru the engine compartment. Now it's just a matter of snipping the backs and the rest of the grommet will fall right out. See pics.

These suck so bad to remove. Just installed a snorkle and it took far longer than I hoped because of these damn clips

Amazon. Not sure what they look like from the other side tho so I can't find you the exact ones. Don't click the link, it just defaults the word to a link on the homepage, not the product.
