How do you remove the 'star' from a CV?

I dont know what this is called (someone referred to it as the 'star'), but does anyone know the right way to remove this off the end of my CV? I already took the retaining ring off.
I couldn't get a three jaw puller to grasp it, maybe it was just really worn out...
I was able to get the first one apart with a hammer and a junk screwdriver used as a chisel, but the screwdriver gave out (yes I know, please don't berate me over the screwdriver).
