Do you really think you’d make enough money trying to sell overseas after dealing with import/export duties, currency exchange, and hassles with a remote buyer?
I don’t. Especially since the used vehicle market in the US is really inflated.

I can’t imagine the scammers that would be jumping on this, they’re bad enough on advertised stuff locally.

A Texas plumber appeared to have traded in his truck at a local dealership, which in turn sold it at auction, and the next thing he knew, it was on TV being used by ISIS, proudly displaying the name and toll free number of his plumbing business. Just FYI. Link to original story: https://www.cnn.com/2015/12/14/us/terror-truck-lawsuit

Most overseas guys cruise craigslist and ebay. Unless it's mexico. The mexico folks like to watch the auto auctions then drive/tow them down. They find you, you don't need to find them.

When I was working in Africa I watched with interest a couple of guys buy 4runners. They mostly targeted Houston since that's the easiest port to ship out of. They had to have extensive phone convos to convince the seller that they were real people and not running a scam. They paid for the car with the request that the seller drop it off at the auto shipping service (also in houston). Then they paid the shipper to handle it from there.

It's a tough thing to accomplish since shipping fees eat into any profit.

So this transaction happened in 2010. This person bought a used 4runner for 9000 (fair price for the truck by american standard), then paid 3000 to ship it. The only advantage the seller had was that he paid asking price without much negotiation.

It was still a bargain on his end, because prices in Angola were bonkers. A new base trim diesel ford ranger was 50k US if you bought it from a dealership there. Base trim Hilux was around the same price. Nissan Patrols fetched over 60. A new Prado (same as the Lexus GX) ran for over 120k US. Used car market was nonexistent because the part-out paid more.

And for the fun stuff, a pair of plain black converse retailed for 150 bucks US, and a PS2 could grab 400. A used copy of GTA San Andreas was 70 bucks. Good luck sneaking that shit through customs though- if they suspected you were bringing in shit for resale it got confiscated.

Most of those guys are pros at that game, to be honest. They are the ones that keep the auto auctions in business. You can send yours to auction, but it's a gamble.

As far as advertising to an individual overseas who might pay more, I dunno.

    Good luck on trying.

Whatever you do.....make sure the cash is in your HANDS BEFORE letting the truck leave your hands.

Never give your Bank # or routing information. Be wary of Western Union transfers. If the buyer sends a check, wait for it to clear the bank before letting the truck out of your control.

Protect yourself from the cheats and scammers. They will come out of the woodwork like cockroaches.

Buyer directly pays for all shipping expense to his chosen shipper.

Every used truck would go to Mexico if not for the 10 yr. old law. (has to be 10, not 9, not 11) unless someone is paid off. I hear that happens there.

    You're right on time.

It actually may only profitable to a Mexican National.

As others have said above, by the time YOU play by the rules, you get more here. I had thought about it in 2010 tho.

Those overseas buyers are typically buying from auction houses, and you've already cut most of the profit out by picking up a truck that could be economically repaired. They're on the lookout for the same thing you are - value left in a wrecked truck by the insurance process.

With Tacomas in particular, most of them lately end up in the UAE and Saudi Arabia where they typically have one of three fates:

1)get rebuilt into desert runners and wrecked in the desert by Gulf Arab playboys
2)get rebuilt into desert runners and technicals and handed over to various militias as military aid
    3) and lastly they get chopped up as parts donors for the above.
