I am pulling a range runner made by RunAway Campers about 900lbs, but is a big square box with wind resistance on the 4’h x 6’w front.

Why? Switching over to S mode won't turn off any alarms or nannies.

It also won't let you downshift above a certain rpm, and will actually upshift if you are bouncing off the limiter.

4th gear is also pretty tall. You could be cruising at 100mph in 4th and not smoke it. I highy do not recommend testing that for many other reasons, but the trans will survive it. You might not, but the trans will be fine.

The speed limit is 80 mph in some places in Wyoming. I will not be going over 65 pulling the camper.

Shoot, I think even my little box is bigger than that.

3200 pounds fully wet. In this picture the 20 gallon water tank is full (as is the 6 gallon heater), and I have stashed in the truck bed an additional 10 gallons of water, 5 gallons of gasoline, an 80 pound cooler, a small tool box, and 30 pounds of luggage.

So 3200 pound trailer plus 280 pounds payload, plus passengers and dogs.

And here is that configuration in S5:

... You'll be fine. Once you get out on the highway, you'll look back and wonder what you were worrying about.

No you shouldn't be going 80, even 70 is a bit too fast for trailer tires. Towing a lightweight trailer should be cake for that truck. S5 and nothing else should be fine.

You bring up a good point. The tires that came with my trailer were speed rated at 65. When they wore out (funny how quickly cheap "off-road" trailer tires will wear) I bought a set of tires that were load rated for double the axle weight and speed rated for 80 mph.

Not that I would ever, ever go 80. 70 is my absolute "speed demon" mode, when I'm around traffic or hills I'm bucking along at 65. And I'm getting passed by the absolute lunatics who want to tow their triple axle 5th wheels at 85. Good luck, fellas, I'll see you after you have to stop for gas and then try to overtake everyone again.

5.29s the only way to go. Probably save the trans too

Even my 5x10 utility trailer's 13'' tires were only rated for 65 mpg...their chinese tires but they look decent. I've been at 75 mpg at times on stretch's when not paying attention to my speeds without any issues, but i try to maintain 65. My truck gets good fuel economy towing that trailer with 19 mpg most of the time.

According to TW, all you need to tow your trailer is
    - Weight Distributing Hitch
    - aux trans cooler
-Scangauge to monitor new fan operation
    - 5.29 gears
    - airbags on rear
    - a tune
    - rear camera on anytime
    - load range E tires

Lol if you listen here you will have $20K spent before you pull the trailer one time. Or,

Do what I do... Leave it stock and pull a trailer with no mods worry free. Many pulls with zero problems.

I am in the process of looking for the best way to monitor transmission temperature on new 2023 Tacoma.
Wanting to know if it goes over 175*F. This is the temperature that if you go over, impacts the usefulness of it fluid, so I’m told.

It goes over 175 without a trailer. I think the thermostat opens around 190.

    Yeah.
Not sure where you are getting that. Normal temp is about the same as engine temp, more like in the 185 to 195 degree range.

A ScanGauge will do it, but you have to program in the PIDs, they are listed on their website.

Just towed 10' Uhaul from Las Vegas to Boise with my 21OR with about 2500#...Scangauge showed 190 across the board for Oil / Water / Trans temps.
