    Yeah.
You'll have a tough time getting it to stay at 175. Extra cooling capacity can't hurt if you are consistently towing at or near the limit. Here's another chart -- most charts I saw on the web seem to indicate that keeping it under 195 was fine, which seems reasonable. I saw my 2nd gen reach about 210 very briefly when towing a heavy load up an extended hill, but it quickly dropped back down. Doing this occasionally is likely not going to cut the life in half, but it's always a good idea to replace fluids early when operating under more extreme conditions.

Toyota dealer told me that the first PM on transmission isn’t till 100,000 miles.

I was planning on a drain and fill with same amount that drained, at 30,000 intervals.
If it holds 10 quarts you my only drain 4qts.

I think I am going to order that gauge you plug into the OBD that all of the comments here stated.

    Yeah.
Not at all. Just follow the instructions on their web site. There are 2 sensors, TF1 and TF2. Here's a link: https://www.scangauge.com/xgauge/toyota-tacoma-3-5l/

Once the thermostat opens the engine coolant/antifreeze circulates thru the radiator which along with the fans attempt to keep the temperature as low as possible. At that point I can not see the transmission fluid temp which is circulating thru the same radiator go below the out going radiator temp without external coolers ?

There's an ATF thermostat that doesn't even open at 175. You can pin it open if you want.

The 3.5 is from the IS350 and loves to rev. Stock redline is 6000 rpm. Some tunes raise it to 7250 rpm. So just downshift to a lower gear and keep the revs up when towing. Higher engine speed means the transmission pump turns faster and keeps the fluid flowing faster.

Rear differential temp? I don't think we have that ability.

    I've got this taped to the inside of my armrest;
    0811clt_02_z-tci_automotive_automatic_tr_df10cb0905c1cd563185f5521fda6144771c5689.jpg

I've seen my 3rd gen up to 101c which is around 213F. That's towing the trailer up a 2500ft/5 mile hill.
Our 2nd gen towed hotter, it used to run the trans up to 230F a couple times.

You can watch TF1 and TF2; the sensors are in the pan and at the torque converter - if you watch the pan is a steady avg temp, the TC fluctuates and spikes with the locking/unlocking of the torque converter while you drive. You can watch it heat up in S5 if you like, but I stay in S4 with ECT on.

I also watch coolant temps, and oil temps (even though it is derived) when the trailer is on.
I try not to look at mileage while I tow..

    Easy-peasy to add xguages.. https://www.scangauge.com/xgauge/front-differential-temperature-f-3-5l-toyota-2016/
Don't think there is a sensor for rear dif temp though.

I did that for my 2001 tundra, but changing it every 15k miles as recommended in the manual. I did quite a few of 10 hr 500 mile towing trips with it. That transmission was still working well at nearly 300k miles when i sold it.

When you say “change “, do you mean draining what comes out at plug into a
Measuring pan and refilling with the exact same amount?

Imo, driving with ECT on when the truck is still new does nothing but screwup your transmission's learning process. Seems the owners that don't use ECT during the transmission leaning stages have a truck that performs normal. I even heard the same from a dealer that does the oil changes now on our prius. Its a mistake many make.

I did some deep research on the trans temps a few years ago and that table is based off running for 1 hour at that temp. My first trans fluid change (drain and refill not complete flush) was at 65,000 miles. Fluid was still pink (slightly darker) and close to fresh fluid color. I tow a Grand Design 17MKE that is 5100 lbs on the way to the campsite. Have towed up some steep grades (Lookout Pass on MT ID border). Used S2 and S3 going up and saw TQ temps at 250 deg and pan temp at 230. The steepest part was only about 1 to 2 miles long so a couple of minutes at that temp. Truck had no problem pulling at all but not winning hill races! LOL. After cresting the hill they both drop to 190's. I have an aux transmission cooler which really helps. Takes about 15 seconds to drop the temps down once the load is off. I do have the KDMax Pro 9 tune which helps quite a bit. I do a drain and fill before camping season since it is cheap insurance. I still go back and forth on regearing to 5.29s. Expensive and towing mileage is probably 10% of annual driving.
