I have a tattoo machine I made while in prison and I ink the oil change mileage and date in between my toes.

When the light comes on every 5000 miles. I reset it after every oil change. After 4500 miles the light flashes for 10-15 seconds at every start-up until 5000. Then it comes on and stays on until you reset it.

For the 1st 200,000 miles I changed the filter at 5000 and reset the light. Next time the light came on I changed oil and filter. That's once every 10,000 miles for oil

For the last 60,000 miles I don't drive nearly as much, I used to average 20,000/year. I'm doing 5000 miles in about 6 months now I've been changing it every 5000 miles. More because of the time than the miles.

Completely understandable if you only have one or two vehicles to do oil changes on, and you do all the driving of said vehicles.

I have five Toyotas and one Ford, all licensed and driving vehicles with 4 adult drivers. Two of the five Toyotas are in different locations than where I live, as my adult children drive them.

None of these vehicles go to a mechanics shop for any work. My son and I do all the work on these vehicles at my home.

So, it can get a bit squirrely remembering everything without writting it down ssomewhere.

And along with the 5k oil/filter change on my 17 Taco, I rotate all 5 tires, as well as regrease my ICON UCL Uniballs.

Oh, and verify my floor mats are still properly in place.

Easy, the Fumoto quick drain valve I put on my DCLB came with a bunch of nice OEM-like static cling type stickers for just such an occasion.
Works awesome, and they sell them ala cart too, but that won't be an issue for quite some time since I change at 5k or so and usually put less than than on in a year.

    Fumoto FTW!

I also change on the 0s and 5s. I also have a printed excel sheet that I keep in the glove box that has everything I’ve done and the prices on it. I not only have the regular maintenance I’ve done on it but when I’ve added my mods to it. Kind of a one stop shop which could probably be separate but hey, it works for me.

I do 6 month changes since I drive the taco around 65-75 hundred a year. I don’t even think about the mileage on most of its maint. items so I just do everything time based and track it all on excel. I also keep dedicated pages in a binder for each service with its associated receipts.
